Where is everyone these days? (in Off-topic)

AdminQBVerifex March 11 2013 7:11 PM EDT

Hey guys,

Where is everyone these days? I was always entertained with the people in CB chat, but now everyone seems to have it turned off. Is there any particular reason??

I just want to say hi every now and then. :)

Never got chat working again in chrome after java 7. So I just disabled it :(

Zenai [Cult of the Valaraukar] March 11 2013 7:39 PM EDT

Chat has had women issues to be sure. Also there is a lot more ppl working different hours so it's difficult to catch ppl. If it was working for mobile devices I would definitely chat more!

I feel like it needs to be slimmed down. The boarders take up a lot of space.

Part of the time, I play on my phone using the alpha build of the mobile page; the rest of the time, I play from one of two computers that purposely don't have Java.

I used chat back on CB1, but it didn't carry over to the world of 22" widescreen monitors.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] March 11 2013 8:01 PM EDT

Never had chat turned on.

And don't seem to be able get as drunk as I used to, and come in from a night out to turn chat on while drinking more. :(

Totally Agree....

I wonder how many of the active users are mostly playing from their phones?

Zenai [Cult of the Valaraukar] March 11 2013 8:32 PM EDT

Fricken auto correct I hates you!!!!!!!

I would say most of the current players hit up CB about 70% of the time on their phone. At least this is what I get from all of the people I have talked to about this subject.

Xenogard [Chaotic Serenity] March 11 2013 9:02 PM EDT

I have it turned off cause I mostly burn BA while I'm at work, also it screws with my phone if I try to play on there.

This for me as well D:

QBPixel Sage March 11 2013 9:41 PM EDT

Doesn't work in my Chrome. And the chat feature itself needs some serious updating.

Thug [Sponge] March 11 2013 10:55 PM EDT

I had problem because of Java on firefox but it is updated and give me a choice/warning weather I want to turn it on or not.

Needs to be more interactive with some features that will allow you to be notified or poked when someone is chatting or comes on line. This will promote the interaction I believe cause no one wants to wait for someone to respond in chat or come on line. I can't tell you how many times I was waiting for a response, found something else, got distracted etc... And flipped back to CB chat to realize I missed a player in chat.

Once upon a time, when I was somewhat younger, a bit more impulsive and slightly less experienced, the (to me back then) seemingly draconic PG rules in effect in the chat/forum meant that chat was far more of a risk (you get to be stopped to review stuff on forums before actually posting, but not so much on chat), which made me disable chat to avoid "accidents".
It stayed that way for many years, with extremely few exceptions, have maybe activated it 3 or 4 times for a few minutes ever since, disabling it immediately afterwards again, I guess the lack of familiarity makes it feel really clunky, and, you know, force of habit and stuff.

Sickone March 12 2013 1:25 AM EDT

P.S. Being able to also move the chat bar to the side as opposed to only the bottom would be a good first usability improvement - the age of 4:3 aspect ratio monitors is mostly gone, vertical screen space is pretty valuable now, whereas on 16:9 screens, you have a lot of space on the laterals (sometimes more than you need, and that goes more than double if you have more than one monitor).

Sickone March 12 2013 1:30 AM EDT

P.P.S. I would have probably hit CB up on my phone or tablet if my country's internet-on-mobile-device rates would have been more reasonable (as it was, I only used them in WiFi mode, and other than at home, not much WiFi access is available).

Atomicboy [The Knighthood] March 12 2013 3:42 AM EDT

Ok Veri I fixed my chat just for you. See you around.

Atomicboy [The Knighthood] March 12 2013 3:44 AM EDT

Oh and for any chrome users having my problem I just restored back to java 6 and chat is up and running again.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] March 12 2013 12:05 PM EDT

It's high time to move to another client...

Zenai [Cult of the Valaraukar] March 12 2013 3:19 PM EDT

I thought we had a separate one for a while. Black background with green lettering, it was just not integrated in CB.

Bounty Hunter March 13 2013 12:40 AM EDT

My laptop will be fixed tomorrow and I will be a much happier individual.

Kefeck [Demonic Serenity] March 13 2013 5:28 PM EDT

My chat actually quit working in Firefox this morning :(

Thug [Sponge] March 13 2013 6:21 PM EDT

Mine is also screwing up.

I should not have said anything.

Bounty Hunter March 14 2013 1:59 AM EDT

Yep chat not working in chrome or fire fox for me too. Not sure what to do.

Zenai [Cult of the Valaraukar] March 14 2013 3:37 AM EDT

Dunno what happened but chat is down for me as well. This is with a total uninstall, reset and then reinstall.

Windwalker March 14 2013 3:40 AM EDT

yep no chat all day.did the java uninstall reinstall thing that usually works.not working :)

Gallatin [Thanoscopter And You] March 16 2013 12:07 PM EDT

Maybe it's time to consider moving it to a different platform?
