Suggestion for tidying up non rare Melee Weapons (in General)

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] May 7 2012 6:19 PM EDT

Here is the current list for Melee Weapons;

Mace of Disruption
Vorpal Blade
Morgul-Hammer
Blacksword of Nan Elmoth
Blade of Thuringwethil
Elven Long Sword
Elven Stiletto
Executioner's Sword
Katana
Scythe
Two-Handed Flail
Great Axe
Halberd
Lochaber Axe
Beaked Axe
Claymore
Morning Star
Whip
Lucerne Hammer
Glaive
Bastard Sword
Awl-Pike
Battle Axe
Long Sword
Broad Sword
War Hammer
Dagger
Main Gauche
Tulwar
Rapier
Mace
Cutlass
Sabre

I've long thought this list is far too long, and in all my questioning about it, Jon answered with "GL you've lost the feeling of moving up the Weapons Ranks". To this day, I disagree with that answer.

When CB2 started, no one moved up the weapon ranks at all, and with the advent of the N*B and the size it has grown, that is far more evident today.

Also, it is a waste at best, a newbie trap at work, to ever think or suggest upgrading a non rare weapon.

So, can we scale this list down at all?

I'm going to remove all the 'rare' weapons, and add some more information to what's left.

Scythe: [48] 2H Hafted
Two-Handed Flail: [66] 2H Hafted
Great Axe: [56] 2H Hafted
Halberd: [52] 2H Polearm
Lochaber Axe: [50] 2H Hafted
Beaked Axe: [34] 1H Hafted
Claymore: [38] 1H Edged
Morning Star: [36] 1H Hammer
Whip: [9] 1H Hafted
Lucerne Hammer: [28] 1H Hammer
Glaive: [42] 2H Polearm
Bastard Sword: [40] 1H Edged
Awl-Pike: [17] 2H Polearm
Battle Axe: [44] 1H Hafted
Long Sword: [24]1H Edged
Broad Sword: [30] 1H Edged
War Hammer: [20] 1H Hammer
Dagger: [4] 1H Edged
Main Gauche: [6] 1H Edged
Tulwar: [18] 1H Edged
Rapier: [10] 1H Edged
Mace: [16] 1H Hammer
Cutlass: [14] 1H Edged
Sabre: [12] 1H Edged

There are some distinct types of Weapons. 1 or 2 Handed. Edged, Hammer, Hafted, Polearm.

Of which 1H, 2H, Edged and Hammer have thier own distinct special rules. As of yet, Hafted and Polearm do not. But let's kep these extra type, for future proofing. ;)

From the list above, it's easy to see that 1H Edged Weapons are bloated. And a lot of weapons are redundant.

There needs to be some choice to starting weapons, but there's too much currently. And there doesn't need to be at most, more than two version of the same hand/type of weapon. And 'base' weapon of that type and a 'top tier' version.

With this in mind, I would suggest we cut the list down to; (base damages are just examples)

1H Edged

Dagger [4] (Entry level Weapon)
Curved Sword [14]
Arming Sword [27]

2H Edged (currently no 'non rare' version)

Claymore [40]
Zweihander [60]

1H Hammer

Mace [20]
Flail [30]

2H Hammer (again no 'non rare' versions)

War Hammer [45]
Morning Star [62]

1H Hafted

Whip [9] (Entry level Weapon)
Beaked Axe [22]
Battle Axe[35]

2H Hafted

Scythe [47]
Lochaber Axe [65]

1H Polearm (no 'none rare' versions currently)

Glaive [24]
Lance [32]

2H Polearm

Awl-Pike [50]
Halberd [63]

Making the list look something like (by order of base damage);

Dagger [4] 1H Edged
Whip [9] 1H Hafted
Curved Sword [14] 1H Edged
Mace [20] 1H Hammer
Beaked Axe [22] 1H Hafted
Glaive [24] 1H Polearm
Arming Sword [27] 1H Edged
Flail [30] 1H Hammer
Lance [32] 1H Polearm
Battle Axe[35] 1H Hafted
Claymore [40] 2H Edged
War Hammer [45] 2H Hammer
Scythe [47] 2H Hafted
Awl-Pike [50] 2H Polearm
Zweihander [60] 2H Edged
Morning Star [62] 2H Hammer
Halberd [63] 2H Polearm
Lochaber Axe [65] 2H Hafted

I still feel this is slightly too much, but an improvement on what we have now.

If there's no plans to give Hafted/Polearm weapons thier own properties, I'd advise just removeing them. But as I said, future proofing. ;)

Long post, thanks for the read!

To be honest, I think CB can get away with two weapons in each type period (exlcuding the couple of entry level weapons). Including 'semi' Rares.

1 non rare 'base' Weapon. 1 Semi Rare 'top tier' Weapon.

Ideally something like;

1H Edged

Dagger
1H Sword
Katana

2H Edged

Claymore
Executioners Sword

1H Hammer

Mace
(New Semi rare weapon)

2H Hammer

Morning Star
(New Semi rare weapon)

1H Hafted

Whip
Battle Axe
(New semi Rare weapon)

2H Hafted

Lochaber Axe [65]
(New semi Rare weapon)

1H Polearm (no 'none rare' versions currently)

Glaive [24]
(New semi Rare weapon)

2H Polearm

Halberd [63]
(New semi Rare weapon)

With the semi rares able to spawn in the AH and be able to be voted on.

1H Polearm (no 'none rare' versions currently)

C&P lazy error above. Oh to be able to edit my own posts. ;)

Too be honest anything that can't be salvageable should just be removed. There is no reason to have "non rares".

I say remove them all or make tweaks to them. Give them special effects, change their damage, and make them "rare". I think this would allow for more variations and might encourage people to sink money into a weapon.

As for a starter weapon, I think every new account should just start with some basic weapon which the base damage increases as they go. Easiest way would probably be to scale it off the total number of battles they fight on the account. The weapons base damage should probably cap around 50 and offer no special effects. However, after obtaining a rare weapon they could apply its special effects to it, but still keep the X and + they have invested into the weapon. It would basically be a salvageable starting weapon.

Didn't we used to have the occasional tournament whereupon you were limited to the weapons you could use?

AdminNemesia [Demonic Serenity] May 8 2012 5:13 AM EDT

They still happen from time to time

QBJohnnywas May 8 2012 5:31 AM EDT

All you need are a starter one hand, a starter two hand in the edged category and a starter hammer. They should be salvageable so you can move up to the big weapons without losing money invested in the weapon. However given that you don't actually need a lot of cash to buy one of the big weapons (especially if you're on the NUB bonus) and they're fairly easy to come by I agree with GL, I don't see much need for the non rares.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] May 8 2012 6:57 AM EDT

:D

Scrapping 'normal' weapons is even better, but more radical that I suggested. ;)

Make every weapon salvagable, so there are no newbie traps, have a couple of 'entry level' weapons, then have a 'base' (no special ability) weapon of each type, with any additional weapon of that type having a special ability (or two).

Make the entry level and 'base' weapons spawn in the store, and leave the ones with special abilities to be Black Market/AH options.

;)

But some sort of change is long overdue!

AdminNemesia [Demonic Serenity] May 8 2012 8:18 AM EDT

:( all the weapons are great for tourneys.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] May 8 2012 9:57 AM EDT

Why?

Eliteofdelete [Battle Royale] May 8 2012 11:52 AM EDT

They really arn't great for tournaments. They are quite useless and just take up space and act as traps for newbs.

BestNUB May 8 2012 11:56 AM EDT

I got trapped by the loch when I first started and then I saw that the base attack sucked xP

amac5000 May 9 2012 6:43 PM EDT

non-rares are pointless for normal play, I liked the salvageable starter weapon idea very much
