Who runs CB? (in General)

I understand that Jonathan created Carnage Blender, but from what I read around, he has NOT been around for quite some time now. If the creator isn't around, then who is maintaining, updating, and hosting the game?

I see lots of threads about change ideas and things to add into the game, but it seems like things are just debated until everyone agrees that the debate is useless because the change probably wouldn't come anytime soon, then the thread is killed.

This also makes me feel like the CB community is too comfortable where it is. People want changes to be made, but people only want the changes to be made if it benefits them. If something needs to be balance then one side will obviously be getting a bigger bonus, that's what happens when something unbalanced is being balanced right?

It seems... stagnant (to me).

I've discussed the futility of discussing game changes anymore, but it wasn't too well received. People will continue to argue for game mechanic changes even though they won't happen. But I guess it's something to keep the community active, even if it won't result in any change.

That title currently belongs to Nightstrike. Although I do believe Jonathan still hosts the game and runs the server? Also the CPC has been in the background on allot of the recent changes. :). And then you have Lamuness and Verifex on allot of the smaller but equally important cosmetic changes.

People want changes to be made, but people only want the changes to be made if it benefits them.

I don't agree with this at all. Maybe a few years ago when changes were regular this was true, but now a days I think the community would embrace any sort of change. Just to help bring a new feel to the game, it's getting sort of stagnant for me anyway.

It's all the same strategies... GA, Exbows, RoBF, PL.... .. ..

borringggg....

Don't make me rain fish upon you too, Kef.

It's only the same strats because you're not using different ones. Nat just beat KoP, Immortals, and Incompetent Misfits with a Fireball mage... if you're bored it's your own damn fault.

That being said folks are still working hard on solving current issues to make way for new items to mix things up. Change is good!

The OP's second to last paragraph hits it on the head for me - and if you disagree you're most likely in the group he describes. The one thing that I will say is fair regarding the mindset of "let's not change anything too drastically" is the realization that our community is so small that we all know it is risky to pull a change that will actually decrease members rather than make the game more enjoyable/increase them.

At the same time, I feel that this mentality is us "playing not to lose" - we're being conservative to the point where we're just delaying the inevitable.

I don't have much pity for those that don't want change - lord knows I didn't want it when cb1 got removed completely. Regardless, I came to cb2 and played it until real life took over for a few years, then came back when things simmered down. I realize people have sunk a lot of time/money into this game, but see how much pity Freed has for you - that guy put more USD into his cb1 character than the majority has for their characters here... yet he sticks around.

People don't like hearing it from me, and I admit most of my ideas are more for getting people to think than actual change. I don't care if changes made are completely different than anything I support, but let's give this game a REAL chance to grow...

If we don't it's gonna end up dying anyways. Cb1'rs at least had this to come to. Where will you go?

i think people attribute reasons for a lack of change that just aren't accurate. the game developers all have full time jobs and most are on cb much less than our player-base.

the nature of code changes also makes it very difficult to implement changes as often as we would all like.

take the changes to the sidebar. they seemed like pretty small requests and the timeframe for the initial changes supports that as well. the lag issues that started and the ongoing attempts to debug those have been much more difficult and time consuming.

watching all of this from the sidelines one thing has become apparent. when we don't get changes and many get frustrated and quit or threaten to do so. when we do get changes that have a negative impact on the game or performance of people get frustrated and quit or threaten to do so.

i feel for the devs as it truly often is a damned if you do, damned if you do not situation. with that in mind, small changes here and there seem like the best way to proceed so that when things break it is easier to determine what broke and some dev time is saved for fixing it.

I'd like to make it known that I understand no one here does this for a living, and I have been really pleased with the powers that be since I've came back that keep this game going. When the ship finally sinks it won't be because of their lack of effort, and even though changes that are requested aren't always made, it's handled in a professional manner.

I'm speaking more about the community that is so against the concept of large changes, then play the "I'm all for changes as long as you're not completely changing the game" card.

This mentality is fine if we're in the "well, things are headed south, but let's keep it going as long as we can" mindset. However, people constantly say they want to grow the game, keep it going, etc. So which is it gonna be? Right now, our actions and inactions are supporting the first. Are our statements of wanting to grow the game simply an attempt to hide the elephant in the room that this game's following is decreasing at an alarming rate, or do we REALLY want to grow the game?

I can't speak for the side of how hard changes are to make coding-wise, but I can tell you there hasn't been a dramatic change that the community supported where that was the reason it wasn't implemented. The community is what's not willing to change, which is fine... as long as we're not kidding ourselves that this is gonna give ourselves a realistic chance to jump-start the game.

I will wait patiently for all the tourney changes that there are whispers about, but if it doesn't bring people in, we may want to consider getting outside our comfort zone a bit and take some chances to give this game a long-term shot. IF that's what we really want.
