Gettin' slow... (in General)

Is it just me or anyone else?
Nope, me and Nat thought the same thing. We pointed it out to Lamu already.

It seems to be slow sporadically here a lot lately.
It was for me earlier, but I thought it was everyone getting in on whacky exp time.

can't even burn 10 ba properly.
it's really slow.
I just burned through my BA now and it was super fast, not even one hiccup.
Lol me too, Lamu said he didn't change anything, I don't know if NS/Jon ninja changed something, but it's definitely better.

I'm no longer experiencing the problem as well. But it could be as horseguy mentioned. It might have to do with wacky xp/money time. Will look further into it.
Yeah it does seem to have something to do with exp time.
slow again with connection timeouts for me.

Sporadically getting it again as well.
A sporadic thing is just the nature of the web. A constant thing is different.
it is happening once again for me now.

Been very slow for me for the last few hours. Fights aren't loading, just timing out. Everything else at my end is fine, including a couple of sites that are graphic heavy that are slower than the rest. Nothing else times out.

Where it's slow for me:
comatose opponents: the page that tells you they are that way takes ages to load.
Loading up the reply box page for threads.

oh god yes, the reply box for threads. I tried to post like 3 times earlier in a new player thread before I finally got past the connection timeouts.

I haven't had a problem with replies yet. That may be a red herring.
Getting lots of timeouts....
Connection limit being hit, timeouts abound. We're looking into this problem.

I get on and can't fight more and more frequently? :( what is going on?
Not like we have a massive user base?
Makes me want to chalk this one.
the issue is either hardware or software. if it is hardware we have to help figure it out by ruling out other possibilities.
if it is software it can be something else running on the server or it could be changes made. once again we can help by posting when the issues start and when they end to help see if there is a pattern.
people are working to solve it so please be patient.
Just sped up for me at 4:19 after being painfully slow for the better part of 25 min.
It's still very slow on my end.
...and immediately after I posted that, my speed improved considerably.
9:38 pm things have slowed to a crawl again for me.
aye, it has been going on for 15 minutes or so this time.
9:48 speedy again. Hmmmmm and the plot thickens :)

Running very smooth for me this morning. Thanks to all who had a hand in improving the speed!
Make sure that if you're going to report current issues, that you do so with the new sidebar javascript code. If you haven't reloaded in a while, then you have the old code.
<script src="/img/sidebar.7.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
if i understand correctly, this means i am still on the old version. how the heck do you get it to update it then, i have done everything i can possibly think of in firefox to get it to update and it is still on seven?
maybe that isn't the right place to look for the 8 version? i went to private browsing and it was still on seven so i went to google chrome on a computer that i have never used chrome to play cb and it loaded up seven as well.
where do we see that version 8 js for the sidebar then?
just to make sure i am looking in the right place for that version:
using firefox i right clicked in the sidebar>this frame>view frame source. the text above comes from about the twelfth line that has text on it.

Hi dude. Actually, sidebar.7.js is the correct file. It's just that sometimes the same file gets updated, but the browser still has the "old" version still in its cache. That's why we sometimes say to either reload the sidebar, or clear everything from the browser and restart.
Should be right dude, and I got this too:
<script src="/img/sidebar.7.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
I hate spellchecker, I'm not going to put in a bunch of HTML because of it. blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
oh, i was going by the last post in this thread:
http://www.carnageblender.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg.tcl?msg_id=00394n
ns states it should be 8 there so that is what threw me off.
Well, we have an 8. At some point we switched back to 7. I don't know when or why. 8 was last updated in June. Fex, any idea? Or Lamu?
I'm inclined to delete all versions and go to just sidebar.js.

Argh, the slow pirates be attackin'.
I think the only reason we have numbers on them is because it helped with caching issues. I think the best way to mitigate this might be to include a hash of the current file on the source of it.
So, instead of
src="/img/sidebar.7.js"
It would be
src="/img/sidebar.js?4FREH4DZ"
and that hash would only change when a new version of the JS is released, because it's always a hash of the latest version of the JS. That should solve all of our caching problems with JS.
That doesn't do much with IE, I already tried.
I'm going to sign out before I get frustrated..
Very slow again..
i am starting to see some slowing down now.

It's been slow the entire year so far, in fact since before (just much worse this past week) and it's still slow like hell, thought it was the network at my vacation location, but that's not it.
It's the server almost constantly nearly croaking, and it's NOT the "average load" this time either.
Whatever small desire to keep burning BA I might still have had is quickly fading when I have to wait up to a full minute for the server to unchoke, or wait from one to five seconds between fights when it's somewhat operational.
Sickone

And other times, it all of a sudden decides it wants to work just fine for a couple of minutes BUT NOT LONGER.
Graaaaah !

...As if I'm ignoring the problem........
I spent 5 hours with pgsql techs last night alone.
it is happening at this moment.
These times all seemed to correspond with the dhcp client doing a way-too-often renew on the secondary eth1 interface. I shut that interface off.
So... Resume finding more times at which the server barfs.
I cut the time to load the clan stats on the home page in half....

Gah! I should have known!

Don't feel bad, horseguy. I read it as dhcp=router and eth1=ethernet connection. So the internet cable got unplugged. NS's been working on it for many hours, and I just figured it out in a couple of seconds. :)
And thanks for giving us a heads-up, NS. Even if it makes almost no sense to me, it's still nice to hear some details of what's going on.
timeouts again here when i tried to post a forum message.
Lies!
(EDIT: Posting this message timed out..... :(

Slowness now, at 9:10 server time
For now you can fight from your favorites list without using the sidebar to run through ba much faster.

What method are you referring to?
http://www.carnageblender.com/opponents-favorites.tcl
Open that page and click fight, then back, then fight (or open in a new tab or window!)
I'm having trouble forging, which requires no sidebar...

About to quit playing... getting way to annoying to even try burning my points at all...
I know it is nobodies fault... but I am just getting quite tired of all of it.
Method to fight when slowdown occurs:
1) click edit
2) click a fight link on that page on a target in your favorites list.
3) click back
You will find it is many times faster than trying to fight with the sidebar. Until this bug gets fixed which is on highest priority you should find this an alright way to fight.
Have been Nat ^_^ Thanks though...

Ya it's pretty bad, trying to fight normally it times out every time.
I do appreciate the time Nightstrike (and others?) are putting in to try and get this resolved though :)
to somewhat speed things up even more, i found to right-click the fight button and open in a new tab was faster, almost faster than hitting enter....hmm

And that trick works wonders. It even shows "Security" in the tabs' text if you hit bot checks, and "Allowance Exceeded" when you hit zero BA.

I burned all my BA, but not to say that it wasn't painful to do so :(
I'm burning BA by opening tabs for each of my opponents and refreshing them one after the other
It has been sporadic for me. At times its so fast I don't even have time to blink other times its so slow I can watch a commercial before I finish a fight or just time out altogether. whatever the problem is I hereby state that I hate it >.<
5 hours of slow time is rather a lot.
Z, what you are experiencing is the effect of fixing things that aren't the root problem. I've gone and fixed a number of things that make fights in general faster... but that aren't the cause of this "big slowdown" issue. So what that means is that when you aren't triggering the "big slowdown" issue, fights themselves are faster than before.
If nobody can trigger a slowdown while not using the sidebar, then I'm going to say it's probably due to all the stuff going on there.
Fex, is there a maximum to the number of simultaneous ajax calls being made at once? Like, some browsers only allow you to be requesting two pages at once. Right now, we have several requests going on at the same time.

Even slow on 1 fight when using the work around, especially when it generates a bot check.
At that exact time in the syslog, nothing was running for a while, and then at 55:01, cron ran munin... I'll look at what that is.

I've just managed to burn a complete set of ba normally at normal speed for the first time in a week.
Thought I'd report it, just in case you can make a comparison between the site running normally and the site being slow.
