What am I looking at with a budget of roughly $500? Replaceable cord is a MUST, as that is invariably the part of my headphones that keeps dying. Hopefully, I'm not spending this much, but if offerings in the $200-400 price range simply don't quite cut it, then I'm willing to go the extra mile. If I'll need an amp too, recommendations for that would be nice as well.

Ultimate ears super fi 5 pro if you can stand the in ear monitors. Haven't compared them to similar iem's, but I think they sound great. Gotta have a decent music source because you will hear the flaws that lesser headphones cover up. Blows away anything I've heard from SkullCandy.
I'm not a fan of IEMs. Sound isolation isn't really that big a deal for me, and durability is key. I'm currently considering HD650s.
Can't go wrong with Senns

While I cant vouch for those particular headphones, I have been very satisfied with the quality of Sennheiser headphones before.

Sennheiser makes some nice cans. Haven't been in the market for headphones like that. Last pair I bought were pink and had Hello Kitty on them can't recommend them, but if you wear them on the bus and talk too your imaginary friend, people leave you alone.
