What if? (in General)

{cb1}dyno June 15 2010 3:00 PM EDT

I have been reading the forums the past few months, and an idea popped in my head with the latest controversy regarding how cb runs. A few ideas immediately popped into my head: How can we make cb fresh again?

cb3? No thanks. Put the torches down... I know the reasons.

Eliminate the NCB/NUB? Would anyone ever catch the top players? What is the motivation?

A reset? People that put large amounts of USD into this game would never support it and rightfully so.

I look back during the days where cb1/cb2 co-existed, and it was too easy to stack your account on one game by padding them with exchanges from the other. I'd get 6 mil cb1 for a mil of cb2 within minutes of posting about it. However, in a sense, the community was split and the overall community, both games combined, suffered.

How do we get people interested again?

My (EXTREMELY rough draft) idea: CB 2.1.

A version of CB that runs alongside cb2, similar to what cb1 did. There's a twist though:

No transfers of any kind between players.

The game runs almost like a glorified tournament system. Everyone starts from scratch, and the only way to be the best is simply to put the time/work/strategy in. At the end of x amount of time, winners are determined, a prize system of some sort that can be credited to the winner's cb2 account is put into place, and the process starts all over again. Each session can have different sets of rules, much like tournaments.

I have more thoughts on it, but rather than waste more time going into it, I'll let everyone rip it apart, whether it be bandwidth allocation that would never happen, flaws in the system, or other things I haven't thought of in the 15 minutes that this has been in my head :)

Just figured we could talk about something other than novice for a change today ;)

I heard my name...

I've been long looking to get mini tournments going, maybe we could have endless tourneys as well...

3 criticisms:
This doesn't make cb fresh again. It runs a parallel game that is even more stale than the original due to lack of transfers between players (no market).

How does this address CB's biggest problem, the lack of players?

And I think it'd be hard to get someone to stay devoted to this "tourney" system of play for months at a time, with limitations ranging from no tats to no DD etc. especially with no trade.

AdminNemesia [Demonic Serenity] June 15 2010 3:09 PM EDT

How is this any different from the tourneys? The whole tourney setup has even been slowly expanding as well.

We could run that system like some other MMOs do and hit the reset button semi-annually. Having the players start over for the race to begin anew much like how CB2 began. Only with far less players.

The market is bad for the same reason it's good - while it allows people with ample resources to buy their way into the game right away, it curbs the ability of any new player without expendable funds to have a legitimate run at catching the top guys. If someone slips up during their NUB, there is no other way than spending USD to get to the top.

My thought is, keep cb2 as it is, and make a mini-system for people that will always allow them to compete with the big guns in some way/shape/form. Anything to entice players that use USD, don't USD, like a market, don't like a market, or any other type of player to continue to play.

Natasha: Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you do a tournament, the BA used is not separate from your regular characters. I'm saying they should be separate, as not to force people to commit to one or the other.

Gun: Although as someone who's put very little USD into the game I'm not upset with that idea, you know we'd lose a decent portion of what little community we have if we reset everyone...

BadFish June 15 2010 3:17 PM EDT

Tourney ba is now separate. And I think Gun was referring to resetting cb 2.1 semi-anually.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] June 15 2010 3:17 PM EDT

tourney BA in CB2 is separate

AdminNemesia [Demonic Serenity] June 15 2010 3:20 PM EDT

It has been separate for as long as I have been playing. It really wouldn't be fair at all if they weren't separate.

{cb1}dyno June 15 2010 3:25 PM EDT

Did not know that regarding ba - I stand by my separation concept though.

Whoever said to reset 2.1 semi-annually or some time simliar to that is thinking the same way I am.

By having it separate, we could do certain things to make the game a little different - such as rares spawning in the stores again (I know a few people were very invested in that!)

BadFish June 15 2010 3:28 PM EDT

I don't see this HURTING carnage blender in any conceivable way. the only people who would participate would be people that play carnage blender religiously anyway.
That said, I don't see NS or Jon ever going for this.

{cb1}dyno June 15 2010 3:34 PM EDT

Badfish - I completely agree with your last sentence. Hence the title "what if?" :)

As for who would play it, it could only help. Why wouldn't someone play it? If you play the regular CB to compete, you can get rewards towards your regular account. If you play to use the market, you can win more items. And if you're just competitive? It's another way to burn ba and compete. There are certainly flaws, but right now I don't exactly see any changes being made that are bringing new blood to the game...

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] June 15 2010 5:21 PM EDT

The 'no transfer' sandbox, or even unlimited length tourny running alongside normal CB and normal tournies, have been suggested.

It's just if they will ever be implemented.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] June 15 2010 5:26 PM EDT

The second I can run two tourneys at once (and I know about it) they're will be a never ending no bonus T∞

Solare June 15 2010 5:53 PM EDT

Put in a soft exp cap for characters and tattoos, allow for a better system for people to catch up. And allow free respec's semi-annually for a period of no more than X days.
This makes the game more about strategy and less about who pays the most to stay in front.

--JDM-- June 15 2010 7:18 PM EDT

The tournament thing would be a fun side option, but in the long run i dont think it would be able to hold any new players interest. Especially once the older players figure out a flawless training plan that new people would take 5 run throughs to acquire. No one would stick around.

Kefeck [Demonic Serenity] June 15 2010 10:16 PM EDT

From a convicted "multi" trust me no one has enough time for this ;).
