Please, keep it to yourselves. You have no more right to try to change mine than I do to change yours. You've no right to boast of how your religion (or lack thereof) is any better or worse than mine. To do so is a direct slap in the face to my faith (or lack thereof).
Darn, I could swear this thread said Bad Religion and thought Hatch had finally crawled out of the musical cesspool.
Guess I should stop getting on my knees every changemonth praying to the big Jon in the sky...

Trying to change peoples views i agree with you 100%, but not being able to discuss opinions on them in a civilized manner is just as bad in my opinion.
So how about we just make an opinion ban and become a communist board where we are only aloud to talk about what Jonathan wants and no one can make a post unless John authorizes them.

The intention of creating a thread with simple conversation or discussion of religion is not bad at all.
However, it is doomed to failure because people of religion want to convert those who aren't, and those who are not want to poke fun at and disprove those who are. So while I agree with your statement in this thread, I disagree with your title. It shouldn't be banned, but it should be closely moderated.
Plus, we have a recent rash of community trolls who are simply here to stir everyone up. I swear, it's like a concentrated effort. Is this a 4chan raid?

Funny that you bring that up because we are only aloud to talk about what Jon wants. It's a pretty broad category.
bears wearing hats is not nearly as volotile a subject. No, I'm nobody of authority, but very rarely does that stop me from being correct :P Religious discussions *always* result in heated arguments that nobody can ever win. Quite simply, when it comes down to philosophy, you will never be "right", and it is extremely difficult to ever be "wrong".
Can you honestly say that putting down my personal beliefs simply because they are not your own, when in reality neither one of us has any idea if we are right or wrong, is not wholly and completely ignorant?
Thak
April 15 2009 9:29 PM EDT
QBOddFish you are also correct same goes for vise versa though too.
If you think about what hatchet is proposing it is forcing something on others just the same, kinda hypocritical.
What imo it comes down to is individuals take accountablity for your own actions.
You see a religion post for example why take your time to even look at it and make your own post and then continue to make posts on the thread, if you know it is just going to make you mad. Second so what if they are trying to convert, show you the light, blah blah blah. They arent forcing anything on you and you have the right and logic to simply ignore it and move on with your life why make it into a big deal. As was said "To do so is a direct slap in the face to my faith (or lack thereof). " How so? you know its not going to change your opinion or believe so why even let it bother you.

im not trying to argue. just look at it from another perspective.

But on the same note what right do you have to say what people can/can't say/write.

I disagree, I continue to believe it is wrong to yell "Fire!" in a crowded public theatre ;)
And yes, that's exactly what I said, you've got the first part down now...if you keep reading, I said that such topics should be allowable, but should be closely moderated. I don't think people should be allowed to flame at each other just because it's a thread about religion and we don't want to censor anyone.
It's not wrong, OB. It's illegal.

First, Hatchet was making a friendly suggestion in order to try and create less arguments. (Obviously this seems to have back fired, sorry Hatchet)
So yes you are technically right, but you are missing the spirit of the post. There's no need to fight with him over it. Hatchet's not trying to oppress you... I think ;)
"Help, help, I'm being oppressed!"
"Religious discussions *always* result in heated arguments that nobody can ever win. Quite simply, when it comes down to philosophy, you will never be "right", and it is extremely difficult to ever be "wrong".

What topic hasn't lately though? All the forums seem to be lately is everyone picking fights with everyone else.
I think it's a bit sad that we users seem incapable of carrying on a discussion without breaking down into savage insults and harassment. Religion and Politics included.

As long as it means no more angry bitter conservative rants I'm all for this.
Let's have 2 religion threads instead of 1 on top of having a politics thread.......

^_^ Hakai you ARE wrong with one thing. If anyone mutters the name Jehova's Witnesses... you dont get any heated arguements ^_^ you just get cold nightmarish shudders from practically EVERYONE in the room. Heck I even looked it up, made ME shudder at what they do and the court cases they won. -_- but in anycase JW bashing is somehow acceptable as long as there is NOT one in the chat.

"but in anycase JW bashing is somehow acceptable"
Poor JohnnyWas.
"Let's have 2 religion threads instead of 1 on top of having a politics thread......."
Two different topics. One is on the topic of religion. This is on the topic of "discussing" religion. If we were grown up enough to not get into pointless arguments and behave civilly, then perhaps this thread wouldn't be here.
"TH, not to be a thorn in your butt,"
I've often suspected it wasn't intentional :P
"but I think you're inadvertently fanning the flames."
Those who understand what I'm trying to get across know that I'm not. Those who don't... oh well?

JW bashing should definitely be banned.
If anyone is looking for a good religion, mine is hiring.
I don't like it but i don't see a need to ban it. Its in off topic and u can see what a thread is about generally by the title so if u don't like the topic u can skip over it.
Keep religion out of CB.
It's fine that you want to post an experience with it but don't try to convince others.
If you want to debate religion go to the countless of websites that specialize in it.
I say we should ban GL, Sut, and Ranger from talking to each other. That always results in heated arguments!

What I want to know is where people are getting the idea that the forums are newly flame war zones. They've always been the site for flame wars, usually with a QB or two in the middle.
Flame wars became the new strat discussions when the Wiki killed them off.

April 16 2009 7:52 AM EDT
There's nothing wrong with a good flame war, as long as we keep things mostly factual, light on the insult side and mostly PG.
You know what they say... it's all fun and games until somebody loses an eye.
Then it's all fun and games, but without depth perception.
:P
"I say we should ban GL, Sut, and Ranger from talking to each other. That always results in heated arguments!"
LoL!
Time to add Marl to that list! :P
"Flame wars became the new strat discussions when the Wiki killed them off."
QFT...
What else do we have to talk about. Bar long standing Bugs, everything else is "Check the Wiki, nab." ;)
But I'm all up for discussing anything. I won't shy away from any topic, while not trying to slap anyone in the face, I will try to correct what I see as wrong. ;)
So, the nature of Souls anyone? Or technology and monogamous relationships? :P
Or best Comic to Film adaptation?

Best films of comics? Too easy:
Danger:Diabolik, directed by Mario Bava and starring John Phillip Law (who was also the angel in Barbarella, another interesting comic adaption from the same time...)
The Lone Wolf And Cub series.
Flash Gordon - the Buster Crabbe cliffhanger series.
