baby talk in chat (in Off-topic)

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] January 2 2009 2:48 PM EST

How do folks feel about purposeful repeated misspelling of words to appear cute?

It seems to be infecting chat here, I for one would at least like to be able to ask folks to stop without being insulted back for it.

How do you feel?

AdminTal Destra January 2 2009 2:57 PM EST

omj liek nowai!

Lord Bob January 2 2009 3:01 PM EST

Glad I don't use chat...

Flatcap [East Milwaukee Devival] January 2 2009 3:03 PM EST

Ditto

QBsutekh137 January 2 2009 3:03 PM EST

I thought excessive use of anything remotely like "leet speak" was considered a no-no? If this is the "latest thing" of the next generation of elites, it should already be covered (and forbidden) by existing rules.

AdminQBVerifex January 2 2009 3:14 PM EST

I don't like people purposely misspelling words or using improper grammar, whether they are trying to be funny or ironic or both. It's just an infectious internet idea that it's funny that shouldn't be persisted. It's annoying and it simply lowers the level of discourse in chat to a level that I don't think many of us would feel comfortable speaking with if it weren't the internet.

RedWolf January 2 2009 3:20 PM EST

Although I would feel idiotic if I ever did it, I don't mind others doing it occasionally, so long as its not excessive.

Kefeck [Demonic Serenity] January 2 2009 3:22 PM EST

lighten up its not that bad.

Flamey January 2 2009 3:24 PM EST

You guys can't be that sensitive, it is the Internet after all. I get that it's annoying, but feeling uncomfortable because of it? I think we know there's a lot worse than baby talk on the Internet.

AdminQBVerifex January 2 2009 3:24 PM EST

Everything in moderation is what we should all live by, unfortunately some people think moderation is for losers and they like to ruin things for everybody, which is why we have to have OP's and rules and so forth.

Mesoshort January 2 2009 3:45 PM EST

Agreed with Fexy, everything needs to be in moderation. I know I have done my fair share of it, but I know I don't do it all the time. "Baby talk" is ok to a point, but really. Know when to stop.

BootyGod January 2 2009 3:57 PM EST

The basic problem has been what qualifies as too much? People have been so sensitive lately that even a simple kick prompts people to flip out and make a big deal about it.

three4thsforsaken January 2 2009 4:03 PM EST

I think it's fine. But then again I have a very large cute tolerance. But I thought the reason 733t was banned because it is often associated with immature behavior.

Mirick January 8 2009 6:21 PM EST

I always figured it was because it's physically painful to look at. vOv

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] January 8 2009 6:45 PM EST

I always take the perspective of: If I can understand it then I don't mind. So, if it's recognizable, It's okay with me.

DAS bro January 8 2009 6:46 PM EST

ya same here i use ie alot 2

kevlar January 8 2009 6:56 PM EST

this is the stupidest thread I have ever read in my entire E-life.

AdminQBVerifex January 8 2009 6:58 PM EST

To add to what kevlar said: "yo momma"

kevlar January 8 2009 7:00 PM EST

Seriously, I mean if you are gunna keep complaining and whining and kicking and crying about chat, it seems like it happens so often... then why don't some of you go to your own channel and live that little white lie you call chat utopia? Give the rest of everyone else a break already.

InebriatedArsonist January 8 2009 7:27 PM EST

Number XIII January 8 2009 7:38 PM EST

I agree with InebriatedArsonist

PearsonTritonRaveshaw January 8 2009 8:09 PM EST

Lol @ tal! That was pretty funny xD

I must agree with Titan and kevlar on this matter. Chat has never been, is not, and never will resemble any sort of perfectness. Why try to make it something it will never be? Sure you can say "make it better" and all, but let's just make do with what we have. I like to jokingly say "nowai," and I'm fine with it. I don't care what you guys think of me for it, I do it for kicks.

kevlar January 8 2009 8:15 PM EST

Arsonist, that is the creepiest coolio picture I have seen in a long time

AdminQBVerifex January 8 2009 8:19 PM EST

"I do it for kicks."

Never was a more accurate statement ever said.

PearsonTritonRaveshaw January 8 2009 8:20 PM EST

Yeah because your lame puns are so hilarious.

kevlar January 8 2009 8:28 PM EST

the net is based on code, it's language is based on code... and if you ask Bubb Rubb... he will tell you to just WOO WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

QBBast [Hidden Agenda] January 8 2009 9:14 PM EST

Or: The 'net is where the ignorant feel at home.

Lochnivar January 8 2009 10:59 PM EST

+1 Fex... that was funny

Rawr January 8 2009 11:19 PM EST

"I don't care what you guys think of me for it"

Hmm... then why post? Doesn't seem like you don't care.

PearsonTritonRaveshaw January 9 2009 3:02 AM EST

I post to share my thoughts. Stop trolling.

{WW]Nayab [Cult of the Valaraukar] January 9 2009 3:33 AM EST

i find that baby talk is rather easy to ignore but i guess thats cause my chat refreshes every 5 min anyway so i don't have to keep looking at it.

Andy January 10 2009 10:07 AM EST

Chicks totally dig cute xP

But really I don't see the problem with people not spelling totally correctly... It isn't that annoying, it's like reading a text from someone who does all the random stuff they do to it to make it shorter! Have you guys never texted before?

QBBast [Hidden Agenda] January 10 2009 10:28 AM EST

Yes. Happily chat allows for more than 10 characters so one can express oneself clearly & completely, without sounding like a moron.

Full sentences and correct spelling do not necessarily preclude being a moron....

However I agree entirely that we should at least try.

QBBast [Hidden Agenda] January 10 2009 10:57 AM EST

The difference being whether one sounds like one, when one is not, versus both being one and that fact being stunningly self-evident.
