New items, part 1 (in Changelog)
- Elven Stiletto. Damage 51, 1h, VB-like defense reduction.
Slightly more rare than a Katana. Not intended to interest top players.
- Menelvegorian Cape. AC 0; each plus gives 1% extra pth to edged
weapons [normal AC].
- Gloves of Mercy. AC 0; each plus gives 1% extra pth to
"short" edged weapons, and no AC. "short" = all 1h swords except
BTh and ELS (but including VB). Less rare.
- Boots of Fortitude. AC 12; -2 to DX; +0.5% to Leadership for
each plus [normal AC]
- Spellboosters [footwear]. AC 4; 3% constant bonus to DD
[less to ED, EO]. Normal AC.
Two more new rare items and some "lesser rares" are scheduled this month
but are not quite ready.
Trade-in program: trade in any rare cloak for a base MenC, or any rare
footwear for a base BoF or SB. Samples of all will also be placed in auctions. update auctions are now open.
- For a MenC, send to Slayer333
- For a BoF, send to edyit
- For a SB, send to G Beee
(The admins will send your trade-ins to Central Bank for destruction.)
There will be at least 20 of each item to trade, first come first serve,
at most one of each item per user.
update: trade ins will close on the 17th or when items are gone

/me hopes to see a new weapons class or an mh nerf (not a boost nope) or even a new stat added to a weapon!
Ow happy happy joy joy
After a couple of minutes at work tihnking on the new items, my thoughts;
"Elven Stiletto. Damage 51, 1h, VB-like defense reduction. Slightly more rare than a Katana. Not intended to interest top players."
One of the more interesting items. I'm hoping this will imply AC will have a higher impact in the lower ratings, as otherwise, just get a Kat.
"Menelvegorian Cape. AC 0; each plus gives 1% extra pth to edged weapons [normal AC]."
OK I suppose. I understand the bladed part. So this is the psuedo ToA Cloak for non ToA wearing, Edged Weapon using Tanks.
Ok I suppose, if you want to use your Tattoo slot for something other than a ToA, and still run a Tank. I don't like this cloak as much as the gloves to follow though.
Why the inconsistency with Zero base AC though? Zero Base Ac armour doesn't give AC on upgrades. Again, see the glove below. ;)
"Gloves of Mercy. AC 0; each plus gives 1% extra pth to "short" edged weapons, and no AC. "short" = all 1h swords except BTh and ELS (but including VB). Less rare."
I like this. PTH is in essence, just a damage increase. With the choice between these or Tulks, it's a trade off of Damage (Plus ENC) that might not hit), to less damage, but will hit more often.
"Boots of Fortitude. AC 12; -2 to DX; +0.5% to Leadership for each plus [normal AC]"
I don't like these, just because it screams to me to make the front AoI + BoF Enchanter manditory. There's just no reason not to.
"Spellboosters [footwear]. AC 4; 3% constant bonus to DD [less to ED, EO]. Normal AC.2
Meh. Something to use if you're a Mage that doesn't;
1: Use DB to dodge Tanks
2: Use EB to boost your Evasion
More of a Multi Minion Mage team item. Use these with a dedicated Evasion/DB minion, as well, there's nothing esle to use anyway.
But a flat 3% is meh. ;)
QBJohnnywas
June 11 2008 6:46 AM EDT
Yeah, I can see the Spellboosters dropping in price from their initial bursts of enthused auction activity. They're handy if you want to increase AC on mages I guess.
Jon: can you confirm their ratio for bonus to spells:
1 (dd): 0.75 (EO): 0.667 (ED)?
Some of these changes suggest to me that AC might play a bigger part this changemonth than it has for a while. The change to the adam's dex penalty and the change to the BoM, mixed with the PTH bonus items suggests a heavy non tattoo tank could be a possibility again.
QBRanger
June 11 2008 6:55 AM EDT
Heavy tanks need to make it to melee.
Without a MgS on it, it is nearly impossible. It is if you do not use the TOE or ROS.
So while the changes to the BOM are nice, for most tanks out there (melee), it does nothing.
Switching a MgS for a BoM on The Grid makes me barely get by NWO.
So for most tanks, the BoM change is nothing special. Nice as a rule, but nothing drastically changing gameplay.
However the 2H dex penalty for using a shield is a major tank nerf, as most people have invested in the MH and likely will continue to use it.
As stated in other posts, evasion just got a nice bump vs melee tanks. Something that certainly was not needed.
And by Jon's response in the thread. nothing coming will help MH users vs evasion.
So for all the typing about how powerful evasion is, it just got a slight boost this month vs most tanks who have spent millions of cb2 on their melee weapon.
Now if there was a weapon exchange where you could change your MH for another weapon, that might help things.
I must have missed the Evaison buff. What was it?

"Heavy tanks need to make it to melee.

You could say the same thing about CoC mages. I have mage shields on my walls yes, but my mage only has the benefit of the ToE aura. Not even AC. I make it to melee absolutely fine against mage teams. Admittedly I have that one round of ranged where I hit too. But it's not difficult to last into melee. And I don't even have evasion.....
QBRanger
June 11 2008 7:03 AM EDT
The benefit of the TOE aura is invaluable with a CoC mage.
Unless your LA and do it by sheer MPR advantage.
It is impossible to do with a ToA, so all this TOA + MH chat is moot.

June 11 2008 7:04 AM EDT
"I must have missed the Evaison buff. What was it? "
The dexterity penalty for 2H weapons went up quite a bit.
Given that most melee tanks use the MH, it lowers their dex a bit. Giving evasion minons more dex advantage, lowering any small dex CTH.
Impossible how? Or are you just pulling anecdotes out to make it sound like you have a point?
I'm sure no team without a ToE can't make it into Melee...
Then switchto a 1H. Which has *always* had a better CTH.
2H does more damage, but can't hit as much. 1H hits more, does less damage.
Isn't that the way it *should* be?

I would have loved to in the past, even used the VB until its nerf.
But alas, I have over 240M spent on my MH and cannot simply drop it.
Contrary to all those that rail against USD and think I can just pump in some more.
It is near the point where I wonder why anyone would play a tank. Pump up your weapon, love it, nuture it and BAMM, it gets a nerf and you fall further behind.
I lost 50M on the VB, I don't want to do the same with my MH.
Perhaps I should just go SOD/evasion/TOA or evasion RBF. And end all discussions.

"Perhaps I should just go SOD/evasion/TOA"
HAHAHAHAHA!
Where did *this* new 'overpowered' combo come from? Well, no I think I can finally give up on this character of mine. Thanks!
ah the problem of choice, you have chosen the mh, the mh sucks against evasion because of the cth, you're now stuck with the mh and low dex, thus low cth.
Well one possible solution is more dex, strat change, weapon change and less whining about the fact that you need so much str to fit the 240 mil nw WEAPON of yours in the encumbrance zone.
Hey disenchant that thing so you need less str, so you can have more dex, so you hit more often.
But you don't do that, because you argue you need that much str and x to do enough damage against those pesky ToE carriers.
You're actually saying you don't want to make that choice? Well that is your problem, you don't need to use that MH and the fact that you spend so much cash on it was your choice and seeing that choice is finally turning against you is called rock-paper-scissors.
And don't, please don't, come with the reason that you must use that weapon of yours.
QBRanger

No you NEED dex to hit!

Your cries of overpowered are reaching deaf ears.
QBRanger
June 11 2008 7:27 AM EDT
Mikel did the study on dex vs evasion.
1M more dex will not almost nothing for me vs 6M evasion. And lower my strength by over 2M.
But since a fraction of the xp a tank could spend in evasion gives you the same defensive dexterity and a nice PTH, evasion certainly is overpowered.
You are too blind or jaded to see it.
LoL! OK then. If you want to exclude those two;
Miscellaneous Debris
Vehicle Test
both are BL ToA MH Tanks. Yechile Test is just under the 1M MPR you wanted, but has a very nice Score consdiering.
That ok for you?
mikel isn't a melee tank so this little comparison doesn't fly.
QBRanger
June 11 2008 7:54 AM EDT
O, then ok Henk.
Your completely right. I should unlearn all my strength, and make it 1M from 2.3M and boost my dex by about 1.9M.
That will get me to about 3.4M dexterity vs the 6-8M dexterity on evasion minions I fight.
So my dex CTh will improved from about 10% to about 30% and lower my ENC by over 50M.
So lose 5k from my MH and about 40 from my PTH.
Excellent idea, forgive me if I hold off using it for a while.
But do continue to use the evasion/RBF strategy that is not overpowered.
QBRanger
June 11 2008 7:56 AM EDT

meh, anything is better then constantly whining about it.
If your PTH is high enough to overcome there evasion shouldn't it be time to do something about your small very small dex?
And don't see EC is virtual dex, because 6-8mil dex against 3.5mil EC
Still leaves your 2.5-4.5mil dex. Against that pitiful dex of yours.
remember CTH is based on PTH, dex and weapon class, you only now have one thing going for you and that is PTH.
Looks like Ranger isn't having nearly the issues Vs. My Evasion as he was having before he tried the new items.... now he beats me about 85% of the time.... looks like NW wins out again.
QBRanger
June 11 2008 8:44 AM EDT
Yes, the new boots, that give PTH are a bit too powerful.
The upgrade curve is too easy. And giving AC is an added bonus.
With encumberance, i believe it should if it high enough...
QBRanger
June 11 2008 8:50 AM EDT
Well Draco,
Seems like it took you all of 1 min to change things so where I cannot beat you now.
Ah, the power of all my NW.
Ahh the power of 296 AC with a big enough Evasion to limit you to less than one hit a round with a ToE and Pl backing them up to keep them alive as long as possible.... ahh the power of reduction layers!
QBRanger
June 11 2008 8:54 AM EDT
Well done.
You have certanly maximized the usage of PL, TSA and evasion.
A very nice strategy that I expect others to copy in the future.
If your MH was bigger, the top would be certainly changed.
Oh and by that I mean I am using a 7 mil nw AC that Reduces my evasion to keep you from beating me... so I guess its not just my Evasion you have to worry about...
I feel by design, they're to be stuck on Enchanters (who gain ENC through their Enchantment) that don't really use their ENC for anything else (Maybe a Corn...)
As I mentioned above, I don't like them. They reinforce the requirement of a Front Enchanter (AoI to foil the SoD blasting your entire team), and rear MGS minions.
QBRanger
June 11 2008 8:57 AM EDT
Well, when I miss you completely about 45% of the time, yes I worry about your evasion.
Considering my PTH is 254 + 8 =MH
11 + 1= AoL
31/2 = 15.5 = 16 round up
= 290
Because I was asked to:
Evasion 7,321,450 4,045,000 237 187
296 AC
1,525,000 HP
PL minion absorbs up to 392k a hit and regens 217,500
and the big old ToE is 5,250,000 effective level
Draco, have you considered moving Teh Enchantments to the front, with an AoI and the new boots?
Would that be detrimental to you in any way?
Well if I did that then Freed could beat me with that Hellsih Sod of his without using upped ammo... Current;y the only way he beats me is with upped Exp shot
QBRanger
June 11 2008 9:20 AM EDT
How would doing that let Freed beat you? He still needs to hit your evasion minion first.
Use an AoI, not the AoL it currently has. Use the new boots for the PTH bonus.
Oh well that makes more sense.... AoI Aol they look the same to me hehe, then yes that could be a possibility and a very good one at that.

a tat that adds 100% of it's nw to the pth of a weapon but no ST or DX.
or a tat that does nothing, just like the RoE, except it levels 20% faster than a tat normally would.
Or maybe a Decay familiar that trains 75% of it's level as HP and 25% as Decay :P (basically a wall prone to AMF but capable of massive damage)
Or a tat that adds 100% of it's net worth to DBs but no DD reduction or damage.
Or a tat that reduces all EO's by 15% of it's level (or reduces both enemy EOs and friendly EDs by 25%)
Or a ninja familiar. 20 HP forever (can be boosted by AS), trains half it's level in evasion, ST, and DX, has inate invisibility, and weilds a VB
or a tat that does nothing, just like the RoE, except it levels 20% faster than a tat normally would.
And the point of this would be? Oh and the roe does do 'something', it's called XP bonus.
A Dead Man of Dunharrow

Is there a reason why Elven Stiletto aren't forgable?
Also if SB are only giving 3% constant bonus, why is it costing so much to upgrade compared to EB ? EB grants skill / dex per + and also AC. SB only grants AC per +
why its costs so much? dunno low base AC has something to do with it. Why the elven stiletto isn't forgeable? Dunno, I asked Jon if it was intentionally that way, but I didn't asked why.
QBJohnnywas
June 17 2008 7:47 AM EDT
I suspect the reason for not being able to forge the Elven Stiletto is connected to the statement 'not intended to interest top players'.
The price to boost them is quite a bit higher than the Top weapons, thus making them not as attractive a prospect to spend your cash on. Forging could make it easy to make a HUGE weapon, giving somebody a spawn in the store VB that would be useful higher up.
Or maybe Jon just forgot to make it forgeable!
