shield that doesn't decrease UC or increases UC... (in General)

All shields decrease UC damage, and i was thinking there should be a 'small shield' or something that doesn't give as much AC as some other shields (or some type of penalty) and maybe even increase UC damage, since people in real life who use small shields in combat could use it to punch somebody in the face. All we need to make this happen is Jonathan's permission and a name.....

any thoughts on this?

Not increase UC because i dont believe that is reasonable, but to have a shield to give a little AC with little penalty and not decrease the UC effect. As i am a One Minion big-time UC user, i would recommend that. However, having what you said could be fine too. :)

if the point of Unarmed Combat is to be unarmed, why should there be a shield that you can use as a weapon be added.

With a shield that increases UC damage, you're not... unarmed.

you'd have to point your arms downward to block it, if you point them up the sword wold deflect, just be careful not to let it come back and skin your arm.

Making the BOM a power shield usable by monks would be a great thing.

It is a buckler, which is small enough to fit on the arm of a monk, seems logical to me.

I say we change the buckler to a UC shield or make a lantern shield.

Shield that doesn't give UC penalty would be smashing, though I think Jon would prefer UC to be that, unarmed. Which is probably all the shields thus far have had a UC penalty.

Flamey, you've mentioned it and it was mentioned earlier in the thread, but how does using a shield negate the 'unarmed' quality? If you're holding a shield you're not armed, you're just holding a shield. Yes, you could in reality use it to inflict damage, but how many of CB shields inflict damage anyway?

But a UC shield...

well I always thought VA glove would be more realistic with vampiric touch :P But helm with vampiric fangs sounds good to me too :D

How about VA bracers that could be worn as a shield along with a pair of HG?

Of course, with UC's track record, we may as well get some wooly mittens and fluffy slippers and sit it down by the fireside and bring it some warm milk.

Maybe rename it Kitten Power or something.


I love UC and for a while I did good things with it. But I can't help but get depressed at the amount of damage a big UC actually does in comparison to other things.

JW, I was talking about Jon's perspective, he seems to see it that way. If every single shield has the same constant hurting UC penalty he probably doesn't want a UC shield. Mages can use a KS because there are varying DD penalties for each of the shields, not a constant detrimental one like with UC.

Yeah, I know Jon doesn't seem to like the idea. Seems daft to me but hey, I think the RBF is rubbish!
