Suspension with $0 fine (in General)

Nihilist July 6 2007 1:32 AM EDT

I managed to fumble a bot check and to my surprise I got this screen:

Your privilege to fight was suspended for 60 minutes starting at 12:56 AM EDT. Current server time is Fri Jul 6 01:29:24 2007.

You may fight again when that time has elapsed, or you may continue immediately after paying a fine of $0. Click here to pay $0 and continue fighting.

NUB BA costs nothing, so your fine is nothing...this will have to be fixed...

SNK3R July 6 2007 1:39 AM EDT

I've gotten this "error" (sorry, Nov, not only just a NUB thing, probably) when more than enough time elapses for the fine fee to diminish to $0, but not before the time to be unsuspended is up.

Nihilist July 6 2007 1:47 AM EDT

But there's 27 mins left there on the suspension. NUB BA cost would make sense, easy to imagine that the fine calculation formula has multiplication by BA-cost somewhere in it...

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] July 6 2007 1:52 AM EDT

that's exactly what the fine is based on...
Good point SNK, that is another instance where this might occur

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] July 6 2007 4:58 AM EDT

It should be a bug though, they should still have to pay to get that BA back since they can still buy the rest for free.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] July 6 2007 5:57 AM EDT

I'm sure this is a bug, otherwise there wouldn't really be any bot security for new users.

Flamey July 6 2007 6:30 AM EDT

yeah, GL, it still stops you from fighting, so if you were a bot, you wouldn't be fighting because you need to pay a $0 fine.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] July 6 2007 7:08 AM EDT

Not that I know anything about making bots, but if you're able to make one to fight for you, I'm sure it's possible to tell it to click the "Pay $0 to carry on fighting" link.

In essence, allowing a nub who's botting (if this is the fine page from failing a bot check and not multiple fight suspention page...) to fight without fear.

Probably very easy to catch people who are always pressing the "Pay $0 fine" link though. ;)

cheap people :P

bartjan July 6 2007 8:30 AM EDT

Jon is aware of the problem.

If I check one of the other tools we have to detect bots, I do not see anything recent that worries me more than usual...

AdminLamuness July 6 2007 11:36 AM EDT

NUB BA costs nothing. That is because it is related to the recent change.

Changelog

AdminNightStrike July 6 2007 5:15 PM EDT

Does the server restart often?

bartjan July 6 2007 5:16 PM EDT

Is "once a day" often?

AdminNightStrike July 6 2007 5:27 PM EDT

I suppose that depends on your definition of "restart".

Either way, you answered my underlying question.
