Pixel Sage, Jonathan, and... New CB Interface??? Uh, hello? (in General)

SNK3R June 20 2007 9:27 PM EDT

Jon had a Re-imagine CB's interface contest (and a part 2) more than a year ago. Pixel Sage apparently "won" by default due to not enough contestants getting an "official" entry in. This is directly from Jon:

No additional submissions were received. (Sheesh, see if I allow extensions again. :P)

I promised at least $5M for the winner and $40M if I like it enough to take live. PixelSage was the only one who completed a submission, so he sort of wins by default. Fortunately he does good work, and I'm pretty sure he'll get to the "enough to take live" point, so I'm sending him $20M now and the other $20M after he fixes some stuff I'm going to talk to him about. :)

So...I dare ask...what happened with the deal? Did Pixel fall out? Have there been updates? Is there still a "live version" that's being worked on? $20M seems like a lot to be sent to a user for something that's never going to be used or seen again. And why give him $20M for something as equally usable as Verifex's or Xiaz's mock-up drawings?

/me summons the mighty Nightstrike to find the last thread from PS about what the the story is with delays...

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] June 20 2007 9:37 PM EDT

last mention I can find is six months ago...
It appears he had things working then, I wonder if it's not Jon's half that we're waiting on...

I am assuming there is some work to go until the theme engine is complete, so if pixel needs help with finishing it up, I would certainly be happy to lend a hand. Unfortunately, pixel hasn't been on in a while, so jon is the only person who really knows how much work needs to be done.

Btw, pixel's design was definitely more than just a mock-up like fex and xiaz made, so I can't say I disagree with the 20M. And it isn't like pixel just sold all the money, he used it to give out loans, and I believe he got scammed out of most of that 20mil.

What the heck? If he did the work.. like the contest said and he got $20Mill.. then he is rewarded for the hours he put in. Shove your jealousy monkey back in the closet.

Umm, no.

Maybe you should read the related threads. He didn't finish it, it was just basically a sketch/design.

Rubberduck[T] [Hell Blenders] June 21 2007 10:01 AM EDT

Was he paid 50M? I can't remember for sure but I think Jon gave him 50m.

Rubberduck[T] [Hell Blenders] June 21 2007 10:06 AM EDT

Then again maybe I am thinking of Descent.

Miandrital June 21 2007 10:07 AM EDT

This is more than just a sketch/design.

As you can clearly see, he had a semi functional product working, so please don't tell me that the 20 mil was totally unjustified.

AdminJonathan June 21 2007 12:40 PM EDT

I could answer this but I'm more curious to see pixel do so. :)

IndependenZ June 21 2007 2:13 PM EDT

Did this spark my curiosity? Oh my.. :p

/me dances around waiting for Pixel

/me lovers da Pixel for giving him a loan and for doing stuff for CB

Flamey June 22 2007 3:32 AM EDT

hasn't said anything for well over 3 months in forums.

I believe he was given 20 mil and then 20 mil later for finishing it. Not 50 mil.

QBOddBird June 22 2007 6:27 PM EDT

I can't wait to see the finished product as well, which I know was at least near/ready before...I'm interested in seeing Pixel's response too! Where are you at, Pixie Sage? =)

Sir Woot June 22 2007 8:25 PM EDT

Hmmm, where could pixel sage be? WE NEED YOU PIXEL SAGE!
