Known problems with the new server (in Changelog)
Searching for an opponent from "Specify" is broken. This will be fixed soon.
(This is also a good place to post bugs you find.)
Such as: "Server Error The requested URL cannot be accessed due to a system error on this server." when you hit the home button?

the background is all white now and when I move the mouse of community and other links no popups come.
Botcheck images are WAY huge now much slower to load.

When I try to do anything involving CB in FireFox including login I get sent to this login page http://carnageblender.com/register/index.tcl?return_url=%2f
I tried restarting firefox and it's up to date....?..?.?
http://69.60.124.245/main.tcl is the new server site

Ok http://69.60.124.245/main.tcl fixed my problem but carnageblender.com points to the login page above.
maybe just battle tech theme?
You can't upload a new character picture.

Zinc; That happened to me after a cache flush last week. Just blow away your CB cookies (Don't need to get rid of the rest, just CB).
When I click on Remove Non-Clan the server goes pretty slow.
character pictures were deleted as well, no one has a char portrait.

Hm, I wonder if Jonathan did a "essential-data-only" dump to optimize turnaround time on the dump/transfer/restore? He probably would have mentioned that, though... Images would be the last thing he would bring over, I imagine?
This thing is fast...used to always have that ooooomph lag each battle, now it is a lot faster. I always thought it was my machine/Firefox, but whatever this new server has going, it's on steroids.
I'm with sutekh on the speed...gonna make burning BA at school much less time consuming :)
I don't think so, because our user portraits transferred over no problem.
"The missing stat-arrow things are also missing on Ultramodern: Blue" This is a firefox thing, Netscape works just fine here. If that helps

left side bar refresh didn't work, but once i added someone else to the list, it updated it with him on it alright. So nevermind...
Character images are still broken. :\
Wait, no, I take that back. I think.

A few moments ago something weird happened; while I was fighting, 6 battles happened on the old server, not the new one.
No idea how this happened, as far as I can tell DNS is fine, both on my end and on CB's end.
Another thing, I think the server's clock is 40 seconds ahead of true time.

Two periods of server-downage this morning, the second one occurring right as I got a bot check. Bot check was a broken image link, no way of typing in. Server was dead to me for 10-15 minutes, came back to a suspension. Is something going on? I can ping the server fine during the downtimes, but nothing comes up in browser. Is it just something on my end? Meanwhile, I'm out 14K for a bot check miss fee. :\
I took down the old server so there should be no more confusion there. (It does seem like some Java implementations ignore DNS ttl, so I forwarded the appropriate chat port to the new machine with an ssh tunnel.)
"Remove non-clan" slowness is a postgresql regression related to view materialization; I can work around it eventually.
I have two services polling the webserver for downtime every few minutes and neither mailed me about unavailability this morning.

OK, I guess it must have been something on my end.
Turns out ubuntu's ntpdate is broken out-of-the-box (in 6.06 LTS which is what the server is running) and I'm not sure how to fix it. But openntpd seems to be working fine now.

I did a 'ntpq -c rv carnageblender.com' earlier this morning and apparently that ended up at the old server...
Comparing two versions of a wiki change doesn't seem to work.
i can't see pending applications to my clan
i can't see any changes beeing made using any pull-down menu, i.e. after distribution of exp and clicking on train nothing happens (in fact exp IS trained, but not seeing any changes is somewhat uncomfortable, especially using the forge is impossible when there's no change in the forgelog). maybe a firefox issue ?! (ver. 2.0.0.3)

April 3 2007 5:02 PM EDT
OK, down to some nit-picking... Training is slow for me. But I am thinking it was slow before, and I put 2 and 2 together... Is it slow because I am top MPR, so other adjustments are being made elsewhere to change people's BA accrual rates? That's a total guess. Better yet, it is a total guess I won't have to worry about when Popsicle Man passes my MPR. *smile* Just wondering... Whether I train 1,000 experience per minion or 20,000, training is slow...
is loading the train page slow too, or just actually applying the xp?
QBsutekh137
April 3 2007 7:30 PM EDT
Applying the experience. Takes around 10 seconds, even still on the new server.
QBsutekh137
April 3 2007 7:31 PM EDT
I trained on all minions except Joe -- instant.
Trained Evasion on Joe, took 10-15 seconds to apply.

QBsutekh137
April 3 2007 9:04 PM EDT
It's the Evasion. I can learn one point on everything else on Joe and it is instant. All other minions, all at once -- instant. One point of Evasion on Joe, and it takes 15 seconds, consistently. Funky.
It takes awhile for Joe to find the off button and stand still long enough to train more evasion.
Ah, I see. Yeah, Evasion acting that way doesn't surprise me. Unfortunately there's no simple fix for that... I'll try to think of something.

While you are fixing stuff, can you change the class on "Recent Name Changes" in Community and "Your Portrait" in Settings to header-font? I think it looks really odd the way it is currently.
I prefer it the way it is now, Mian. :P
QBsutekh137
April 3 2007 11:28 PM EDT
Jonathan, it's no big, though I am intrigued as to why Evasion would take longer...NightStrike, you have that equation yet? *smile* Now that I know it's the Evasion, it's cool, because *cue G.I. Joe music*, knowing is half the battle.

So....Jonathan... Could I possibly get a yes or no on whether or not I should expect triple-hits with an HF at my level? In case you missed my HF thread with all this server stuff? *smile* We've got a lot of good theories on dex, pth, etc...but I still feel like I'm missing the boat...
Great job with the new server, by the way... I can't even imagine the command-line magic you've been pulling off recently...masterful!
"Ah, I see. Yeah, Evasion acting that way doesn't surprise me. Unfortunately there's no simple fix for that... I'll try to think of something."
......oh, no.........
Dude, if all of my Evasion numbers get trashed because of this, I'm going to be very unhappy..............
Please don't change your equation for it. At least switch to a lookup table or something. No one's going to get to, say, 300 or so, which is a cake walk for a hash table.
yeah, except it's a "reverse hash" where you're mapping a range of keys to a single value...
a tree would be fine for this except, have you ever tried to write real data structures in tcl? *shudder*
I guess for such a small range just a linear search would be ok.

Looks like server time vs real time got fixed.
I've never written anything in tcl. I know others who have had moderate success with the sourceforge tcllib project, but I myself have never touched it.

Late bidding isn't resetting the auction timer.
that ended with ebay style bidding Proteus
I think (and could be wrong) that when Jon fixed the bidding system so it was more like ebay that the time extension was done away with.
Like it says on the auction page now, "Your bid will automatically be increased up to the amount you give here. Only you will see what your real maximum bid is."
The bids-extending-auction-duration feature is thus no longer necessary and has been removed.

Yep something is definitely whacky with NoFear. Just got the 10 minute penalty for attacking him. :-/
i just fought nofears top char and won, with no errors.
"integer value too large to represent"
grr
I went to increase my max bid to the buy now price and got a message basically saying "buy now instead." When I went back to look at the auction, however, it stated I had instead placed a bid of the buy now price.
This is not at all what I intended. I wanted to increase my max bid while keeping my current bid the same. Instead the auction increased my current bid to the buy now price (and did not even give me the item).
I think there might be some error in the increase bid/buy now interaction.

"Could not process log for that day"
Quick update... I tried selecting the buy now option and it did let me receive the item, so that worked.
It was the auction for the Beleg's gloves.
One quick question, didnt want to make a whole new thread for it, and know its not from the new server, but....
When is AoF going to be combined with Junction, as in fixing it, since its already supposed to be there but its not?
I thought it was only the negative effects of AMF that didn't work...I could try and test it with my JKF, but I'd have to find someone I was barely missing, or barely getting missed by.

..post 100 <3..
The link to the 'Changelog' forum appears to be broken. It leads to a server error at this time.
The link to Off-Topic is broken now as well. I suspect that it occurred when I created a new Off-Topic thread, because I got a server error when I posted it. I hope that helps you find the problem, Jon.
Now they both work. Was it time-dependent? I don't know.

I don't know if this belongs here, but in the Blackmarket it say I have not voted this week, and when I go to vote it says I have...
Okay, looking back onto it now(via different tab), it registered my vote after saying I had already voted this week... Hmmm maybe I'm trippin...
character images, when will we be able to upload them again?
some history graphs still give server errors when you try viewing them
char images work for me...
Uploadge, not workage, novice.
just uploaded a new one...
Hmmm... Maybe user pics then? I just uploaded a new one...It's not showing yet.
Not sure if its too big. Does the forum scale it down automatically or do I have to do it myself? and if I have to do it myself, what are the dimensions required? I'd appreciate a CM and not another post as this has little to do with 'Known problems with the new server'. Thanks.
new pic shows if you click on the forum pic...often just takes a while to update your cache files...
