DBs vs EBs - Testing (in General)

Popsicle Man (Ranger) loaned me his +151 DBs (NW ~43 million).
I usually use +22 EBs (NW ~1 million).

So, what can I get for an extra 42 million dollars? *smile*

I fought a variety of folks. Fact is, no current archers can hit me in either case, because most large tank/defensive teams don't even use ranged. The only character that can lay an arrow on me is Crisis. I fought Crisis 10 times with EBs, then 10 times with the DBs...

EBs: 7 hits out of 28 shots, all hits in Round 3.
DBs: 9 hits out of 28 shots, 7 hits in Round 3, 2 hits in Round 2.

So, in ranged, the Evasion multiplier really makes it a dead heat, with the edge going to DBs if they are very big.

Where the DBs make a difference is in melee. I was able to beat Critters with the DBs on. Yeah, I was somewhat floored too. With my Evasion still at 1.2 million, that is some good defensive dexterity. And the DBs shaving off 151 pth from Critter's melee attack made the difference. I saw 0/6, 0/7, and 1/6 in my wins. With the EBs, I cannot beat Critters. I can't get him to miss in melee. My best evasive run was a loss where I made him go 9/11. With DBs, he misses a lot and doesn't get doubles. With the EBs, he misses rarely, and still gets doubles.

Bear in mind, the DBs could still be in the +130 to +140 range and cost far less than 43 million. But they would still cost a lot more (and add more to PR) than a pair of 1 million net worth EBs. I can get the EBs to +25 by only spending another 1.4 million or so, taking my Evasion up to an even 1.5 million.

Also, remember that DBs cannot be reduced by EC -- my Evasion can. Makes a BIG difference. Mikel was playing with EC for a time during the free untrain, and he owned me in ranged -- even hitting me in Round One!

So, there's the info, for what it's worth. I don't have the money for DBs that big right now, so will be sticking with EBs in my build.

A big thanks to PM for loaning me the boots. Class act!

Thanks for the info!!!

"Also, remember that DBs cannot be reduced by EC "

You sure about that?

QBOddBird January 19 2007 6:37 PM EST

I would think so, since DBs offer no Defensive DX...

I'd be pretty sure...they don't grant defensive dex and reduce pth by one point per +

Sut...I hate to say I told you so buuuut... ;)

hehe just some friendly kidding, now you have something to spend all of your $$$ on.

But no, I am not sure. Dexterity and pth seem largely interchangeable these days, and it is a devil of a time trying to test all that!

ec does NOTHING to dbs

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 19 2007 8:47 PM EST

Don't forget, that in addition to the PTH reduction from DB being untouched by EC, points of PTH reduction above your attackers PTH still reduce DEX based CTH. (This is of course still true for Evasion...)
