UltimaSpock [Forge Frog Services] December 22 2006 7:22 AM EST

hi

i am forging a lot BoTH since 3 months
sometimes a get an error i have no explanation so far
Today i ask you if you also get strange error messages, and i copied the log messages at the end of my post so that you can explain me my error if you see it

the * on a both requires 9 heating, spell of viscousness, 8 cooling, 2 heating and spell of tempering and 2 more cooling.
i got an error at the second spell (tempering, and i dit not try to cast the viscisousness, i am not mad)

thank you

your Blade of Thuringwethil is cool to the touch
A Dwarf who has been watching approaches you. "That's no way to do it. Here." He takes your Blade of Thuringwethil and plunges it into the water bath until it is cool, then hands it back.
You cast a spell.
A drop of water sizzles on your Blade of Thuringwethil
You heat your Blade of Thuringwethil
your Blade of Thuringwethil is hot to the touch
You heat your Blade of Thuringwethil
your Blade of Thuringwethil is cool to the touch
You quench your Blade of Thuringwethil in the water
your Blade of Thuringwethil is warm to the touch
You quench your Blade of Thuringwethil in the water
A drop of water sizzles on your Blade of Thuringwethil
You quench your Blade of Thuringwethil in the water
You see blue spots on the surface of your Blade of Thuringwethil
You quench your Blade of Thuringwethil in the water
You can feel heat radiating from the tongs as you hold your Blade of Thuringwethil
You quench your Blade of Thuringwethil in the water
You can feel the heat from your Blade of Thuringwethil through your gloves
You quench your Blade of Thuringwethil in the water
your Blade of Thuringwethil glows a dark red

I think you made a mistake yourself, however you did heat 2 times though I can't see if it's 2 times 10 minutes.

Also if you do this consistently, the dwarf will give you the same results, and not random ones.

perhaps you didn't cool enough?

UltimaSpock [Forge Frog Services] December 22 2006 7:38 AM EST

you're correct, cannot prove i heated for 2*10 minutes...

i think the log messages should display the exact state of the forging (temperature and so on...)

AdminShade December 22 2006 7:43 AM EST

I think not, forging shouldn't be a certainty, you just have to remove your own human error.

Alternatively you can use Verifex' forging script perhaps :)

But imo there is nothing wrong with the formula, just have to keep on doing the same without mistakes :)

UltimaSpock [Forge Frog Services] December 22 2006 7:56 AM EST

the problem is that by a single error you can waste 20 ba or so
depending on the item and where you are on the cycle

you do not have such a loss with normal fights...

Just think of it as a stupidity tax.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] December 22 2006 11:01 AM EST

there is documentation stating that you should ALWAYS check that you're actually where you're supposed to be before casting or tempering...maybe there is some randomness to it...

Yeah cool to the touch does not necessarily means cool to the touch. Check for the progress change.

Ultima, do you use Fex's script? Sometimes while using the script, it will seem like the page finished loading, when in reality it hasn't loaded yet yet. But the script doesn't keep track of that, so you may inadvertently skip a step. I have done so numerous times, and it always seems to happen at the worst of places.
