Black Market Voting Guide: Morgul Hammer 9/23 (in General)
Elven Boots | 1 vote |
Morgul Hammer | 3 votes (including mine) |
Alatar's Gloves | 2 votes |
Steel Brigandine | 2 votes |
Amulet of AC | 1 vote |
Elven Long Bow | 1 vote |
Sorry, 3 items were tied, had to break the tie somehow.
I would like to reiterate that the way the black market works, without some sort of organization such as this thread provides, people tend to do as has been suggested, only voting on the item they want next, and this tends to result in much fewer item spawns, much more wasted votes, and a sharp reduction in the variety of items spawned. For all these reasons, following the BMVG (this thread, as voted on by the community members who read it) is the best way to spend your vote.
sure lets take a shot at the morg.
Why is this the best way to spend my vote, if it's not an item that I could use? All I'd be doing is basically putting a rare item in the hands of another player, giving them a benefit, as my opponent. I'll never understand the logic behind such an act.
Well, I tried very hard to explain this with my little spiel at the beginning. If you vote on the item in this thread, you are perpetuating the community's setup via the thread which allows us all the chance to spawn items we want. If you don't, well, then it'll probably be that much harder to get something you DO want and can use from the black market later, because more than just YOUR vote is required to spawn an item. Without this thread, most votes would just get wasted, and those that didn't would usually result in the same items being spawned. If you don't understand that, you probably don't understand the black market at all.

i'll have a crack at responding to speckix as well. nice and simple for ya.
you want a corn, the BMVG says Morg, why vote for the Morg when i want a corn? you ask. because the demand is morg, once a morg is spawned people might want something different. if you help vote for the morg then it spawns faster and people then will vote for the item you want when it comes around and it will. your just stopping rares from spawning by voting for the item that is not part of the BMVG.
why not just never vote? if your going to defy the thread your wasting votes, its the same as not voting, your just wasting 1 min of your life, you really dont need to vote for an item that wont spawn.
i vote for a corn, still.

I just love how phrases like "you are just wasting your vote" and "defy the thread" are used for anyone who does conform. The item you want does get enough votes? Tough it out and campaign harder instead of telling people that they are wasting their votes or are in defiance of the community or any other such nonsense.
I'm not entirely sure I understand all of what PK said, but I would like to add to his final point. Campaign others to vote on the item you want!!! This is a very important method which is very rarely utilized. In fact, I would say that campaigning some of your friends here on CB, most of whom probably didn't feel strongly enough to vote in the first place, and getting them to vote on the item you want here in the BMVG thread would be the absolute easiest way to make an item spawn. I'm always very surprised at the lack of turnout here. If you want an item, say so! And get other people to do so too! This is not some kind of controlling mechanism artificially controlling people: this is YOUR votes being focused in such a way that items actually spawn! Votes only last 2 weeks: it is difficult to build up consensus through votes in the black market alone because of this. Please, if you feel that the process can be improved somehow, say so.

Any chance we could get a soda machine in the lobby ??
I think it would be advisable for those that do not understand this to watch "A Beautiful Mind", http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0268978/
It's explained extremely well there. Actually, I think I even have the pertinent movie clip archived... Gimmie a few minutes to find it.
Okay, I'm saying this in response to KM. You're saying that eventually, the item I want will come around, and that it's all based on the current demand (that was a given whether this thread is here or not). I'd like to address the first point...that the item I want will eventually come around...what sense does it make for me to give 3, 4, 5, possibly many more rare powerful items to my opponents in exchange for the chance that my item will eventually come up? The item I want will probably spawn naturally before the month (or more) passes in which my item would come around in the black market. If I want an item, and it doesn't spawn, and I'm one of only a few voting on it, then so be it. Just wait for it to spawn naturally, as it will be sooner than running the rounds in the black market. I still feel that ultimately, you're only doing youself a disservice by voting on items that are not what you could use.
And to say that votes are "just being wasted" is really not the case at all (I don't know if you said that, or if it was someone else in this thread), but the demand will show what items enough people want. To say that I'm wasting my vote is quite absurd, as I'll vote on an item I want, in the hope that it will spark an eventual spawn of the item from the black market. But if I go along with this thread, then the majority of the time, the item will spawn naturally before the rounds are run to get to my item. And if that's not the case, then I'm not concerned about that either. I still don't feel it's a good idea to spawn the best items in the game to all of my competitors.

the most competitive player does not think like that.
its a choice, you make one, you dont have to be stubborn about it.
this game is friendly and has a friendly community and i can tell you, your not gonna make it near the top anyway you'll get maybe 1/4 of the way there.
i think you aren't one of the CB players that have reputations of being friendly and not worrying about giving the opponents weapons. maybe a game like RS is suitable where everyone calls you a "n00b" for you.
Flamey, I think your comment there is completely without reason and base. If you know anything about me, you'd realize I'm probably one of the more friendly people you'll ever see here. Your idle threats against me not making it near the top are quite baseless and uncalled for, and I'm simply stating my opinion on the black market thread. So why does that make me a bad person? It's a discussion, and I'm stating my opinion on the discussion. If you have useful input to the conversation, then please contribute. Flames are unnecessary.

Flamey, please explain in detail how conforming to the dictates of this thread subject have any bearing whatsoever the overall competitiveness of any given player.

September 24 2006 5:53 AM EDT
i think you got the definition of "threat" wrong there, did i say i was going to do anything to you if you didn't vote? no.
and i don't know what to say, you surely haven't showed you were a nice person, and all i was stating is that you seem so competitive but you dont show it.
and PK im not forcing them or threatening them, it would just get everyone more items in the game, and to the rest of what you said, i completely dont understand, so if you do want to get your point across you're gonna have to be more simplistic, i'm not an adult so no, i don't understand your big words.

"and PK im not forcing them or threatening them"
No, you did not. You DID, however, state that Speckix will never be competetive in this game based solely upon his disagreement with this thread.(and by extension, anyone else who dares "defy" this thread) You then suggested that he move onto another game.
Were you trying to use guilt as an incentive to change his mind?
Flamey
September 24 2006 6:26 AM EDT
i didn't say NEVER, i meant to say at the rate he is going thats where he is going to end up. and the reason to _suggest_ he move on is because he is _talking_ to competitive than what he really is.
i'd rather not spam this thread anymore and will not post about this, CM me if you really want to continue.

Here is my two cents on the subject....
I have never really understood the "need" for a voting guide except that it is a reminder that the black market is there and to use my votes...
Obviously compliance to the BMVG does spawn more items overall than any other method. The only other alternative is:
-for everyone to vote for what they want,
-hope that some other people agree with your choice,
-hope that some people who don't have an item they really want will take the time to vote for whatever has the overwhelming majority at the time.
The drawback to following the BMVG is that an item you REALLY want may never make it as the top item....
but think of it this way, the more rares that show up overall, the more trades, upgrades, downgrades etc.. are going to take place. So if you want a corn, and BMVG says MH, when an MH is spawned, someone may buy the MH, and make strat changes, selling other items, someone else will buy those items and make strat changes, and sell some other items, etc. etc. etc. until possibly a corn may be one of the items freed up by a player.
But a corn spawns every one to two weeks from the regular auctioneer. That's what I'm trying to say...in the time it takes for all of that to occur, the item will spawn naturally, and multiple times at that. :P

Excellent, a lot of votes this week! There will finally be some competition for the next item to spawn.
Make sure to put in both of your votes this week.. and when you do, please take a look at the General forum to make sure that you're posting in the latest thread. They're date-stamped for a reason, folks! ^^;; Don't worry about it if you voted in the other thread though, I'll make sure to count your vote this week.
