People do tend to have more trust in areas, hence spyware and malware that is installed by said user. I give you gator, bonzi buddy, ect.
If people install those, what makes you think they wouldn't install items like items like VX2 because it promises faster internet?
People have to be protected from themselves or educated on protecting themselves on the internet. Even I use teatimer to keep IE's issues from hijacking my registry, and soon FF will have the same problems.
