Admin{CB1}Slayer333 [SHIELD] September 21 2005 3:04 PM EDT

I need a new browser, apparently Firefox and Netscape decided to stop working on my computer, so I have a bit of an issue :-)

What I Need:

Free!!
Tabbed Browser
Multiple home pages
Form filler/auto login type function

What I would Like:

Displays similarly to Netscape/Firefox

Browsers I cannot use:

Internet Explorer
FireFox
Netscape
AOL (duh...)

I will check through all of the entries, and see which one I like best.
The winner will recieve 100k.

How about finding out why Firefox won't work on your system and fixing the problem? Since I highly doubt it is the fault of firefox that it is failing.

Works great on my XP Media Center Edition (which is XP Pro SP2 with some extra bloatware).

I have been working on why the browsers I used to use suddenly dont work...unfortunately, I aint much of a computer whiz :)

(Firefox worked fine for me as well for a loong time, I have no idea why it would stop working)

AdminShade September 21 2005 4:19 PM EDT

why not uninstall firefox and re install it?

Admin{CB1}Slayer333 [SHIELD] September 21 2005 4:21 PM EDT

I've tried that :-/

BrandonLP September 21 2005 4:24 PM EDT

Well, telling us it doesn't work isn't exactly a definitive explanation. Does it not open? Does it not open web sites? Does it crash at certain points?

If I double click the icon for either Netscape or Firefox, the .exe process opens, but the interface does not.

Have you rebooted? If not, try this: Right-click on your taskbar. Choose 'Task Manager'. Go to the 'Processes' tab. Order by 'Image Name' by clicking on that title. If there's a firefox.exe process running, click on it and click the 'End Process' button on the bottom right.

If there's no firefox.exe process running, then it may be that you have a corrupted profile. I'd suggest going to mozilla.org and looking through some of the help files.

Otherwise, Opera just became free, so you could try that.

What are you on now?....=P

right now I'm on a browser called MYweb4net,
but it doesnt let me use the enter key to fight on CB :P

Almuric is right...there are really only two pieces to Firefox: the program, and your profile. As far as where your profile is, this is from the Firefox web site:

------
On Windows XP/2000, the path is usually %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default\, where xxxxxxxx is a random string of 8 characters. Just browse to C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ and the rest should be obvious.
-------

So, go to:

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\

and then delete the profile folder. Then reinstall Firefox. That means you are starting from scratch.

If that doesn't work, I would start to worrk about your entire internet layer. Can you ping? Bring up a DOS command window and type:

ping www.google.com

and see if you get responses. IF you do, then that means you are online, and these browsers should work.

I can understand IE getting killed by spyware, and can even understand Fire Fox having a corrupted profile... But it seems strange that your computer is eating browsers like candy.

InebriatedArsonist September 21 2005 4:45 PM EDT

Perhaps you have a virus of some sort....I would recommend a thorough scan of your computer, for starters. Failing that, perhaps it's time to reinstall the OS?

As for browsers, Opera is now free, so try that.

Oh wow :D thanks a lot Sutekh :) That worked like a charm, I guess since I would prefer to have FF anyways, you get the prize :D
