What would YOU add to CB? (in Contests)

AdminQBVerifex August 4 2005 6:51 PM EDT

I'm trying to make this greasemonkey extension work the best it can for CB2 here, and I'm not sure what more to add. So, I figure the best way to do it is to ask the community. I want everyone to give me well thought out ideas that I can add into this userscript, to hopefully make things more fun here on CB.

For the best ideas that I actually implement, I will give 50k each. If you give me multiple ideas, I will give you 50k for each good idea, that I actually implement. Remember, I decide if your idea is too complicated to do or not. But other then that, go wild! I can also add Pictures to different parts of CB using base64 encoded images, just to keep in mind.

I will end this contest when either there is little or no interest in it, or when I have reached my limit for new things to add. I'm not going to set a preset limit on new things I will implement at this time. So, Have Fun!

This is what my CB2 GM (greasemonkey) script can do so far:

  • Advance opponent list down to next 'available' opponent after each fight.
  • Adds a link wiki link to the specific weapon being forged, right next to the equipment being forged.
  • Adds a transfer log link in the store purchase log, next to each person
  • Adds collapsible threads (with a image button) to forums (both new and old style forums), also day old threads can be auto-collapsed (menu toggle option).
  • Adds Play By Play control button on left side bar

Here is the link to greasemonkey, and here is the link to my userscript.

I'm not going to include instructions on how to install it in this post. Either read the greasemonkey site, or contact me directly for instructions.

PS: I'm going to disregard any ideas that involve designing fightbots (clicking fight for you), storebots (sorting out rares, autoclicking rares), or doing anything determined by Jonathan to be against the rules.

Tezmac August 4 2005 6:56 PM EDT

I don't know if it would be possible to do this, but I think it'd be really neato. If you could find a way to pull the rewards gained after you fought an opponent, you could use Avoid's formula for calculating average exp and money gained per an opponent and the user could keep a sweet little database of rewards per opponent to see who they want to keep on their fight list and who they want to drop.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] August 4 2005 6:56 PM EDT

Win Streak listing somewhere in the UI for those of us who dislike being farmed?

J Carp August 4 2005 7:00 PM EDT

a good idea is where u can see ur character fight the oppenent...
and some new weapons and armor...
i think it also be cool if where u can go a to a clan meeting...
and my last thing is...u can do some quests..such as...

InebriatedArsonist August 4 2005 7:08 PM EDT

Just for the record, I would suggest a function similar to that of the Farkit Firefox extension.

Obsidian August 4 2005 7:09 PM EDT

a simple yet nice thing to do, would add a option to not have a tutorial in the begining, as it seems to screw up if you do something wrong, i had this happen when i joined, it was a pain ( if minute) to login again.
another (if possible) idea, would be for contests, to have only the contests that are still going on displayed ( or atleast a option) so that way when a contest ends people dont keep posting.

ywnwraith August 4 2005 7:13 PM EDT

I'd like to see it do one touch training, based on whatever pattern your specify.

QBOddBird August 4 2005 7:16 PM EDT

Hm. Got a few suggestions, don't know how plausible they all are.

1) A possibility is a calculator to determine how the NW of an item will affect your PR. This would only be possible if someone knew a formula for how that works, however, and I don't know if anyone does.

2) An update message thing (sort of like how Chatmail is delivered) to show you when someone attacks you / when someone defeats you, something to that effect. Again, I don't know how hard that would be to implement...

3) Possibly a customizable set of links, available in a collapsible menu from the home screen? For the areas not available straight from the homepage. (example: A forum thread you want to track and have quick access to, the Character attributes/statistics for a realm other than the one you are in, etc.) I was thinking like the ability to right-click a link (say, to the Gondor area of Character statistics) and select -make link- or something to that effect and have it available then from the aforementioned menu.

4) Also, maybe a real-time updating list of you, the first few in front of you, and the next few behind you on Clan MVP (or whatever other statistic you might be competing in) so that you can see when they fight and get ahead of you.

I don't know if any of these are real possibilities, but they seemed like good ideas to me at the time. ^_^

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] August 4 2005 7:16 PM EDT

I'm pretty sure Brendan only wants small simple additions and not completely game changing ones.
I would be impressed if he could do that training thing but I'm not sure he would.
I would say go with the action buttons in the store though Brendan, I found that a good option for when only wanting to buy a single item.

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] August 4 2005 7:20 PM EDT

One good one I have is to make the sections in the left-panel collapsible.
So if you would just like to go to a single area you don't have to scroll up and down to get to it.
I know I moan about laziness in people but that is what you are here to accommodate for and thought it would be a decent addition to remove the insane amount of clutter already there :P

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] August 4 2005 7:49 PM EDT

I know 800x600 is an awful resolution but I like it and it would help all the other 800x600 users.
I don't actually use Firefox though so would most likely just be for other people although if it was implemented I may be persuaded to switch for it :P

Sukotto [lookingglas] August 4 2005 8:22 PM EDT

Enhance forum posts.

Highlight every post made by the person that started the thread. The easiest way to do this is probably to add "class=winner-font" or "class=loser-font" to the poster's name if the name is the same as the first poster on the page.

Keep in mind that different themes make it unwise to just choose a colour to use as it may conflict with the theme (eg. if the colour is the same as the foreground or background of the theme)

Make all urls appearing in forum posts clickable (for those people that can't figure out how to do it themselves)

Make all links in forum posts open in a new tab or window.

Maybe impossible but, how about sorting the "recent posts" page by type (FS, Off-topic, etc)

thnatic August 4 2005 10:09 PM EDT

How about having loaned or rented items in a different color, and having the time remaining pop up if you move the cursor over them. This could make it a bit easier to organize large inventories on multiple characters without having to visit Loaned/ Rented Items all the time.

Starkadhr Gudbrande August 4 2005 10:22 PM EDT

Make it possible to save or delete CM messages.

Maelstrom August 4 2005 10:49 PM EDT

This may involve too many queries to be practical, but it would be nice if, when you inspect a character, items that are being rented would be flagged in some way, for instance, shown in a different colour.

Synco August 4 2005 11:00 PM EDT

I think you should take the play-by-play out of places, it looks too crowded. Make a new section called play-by-play under the places and have the choices like you do now.

Synco August 4 2005 11:05 PM EDT

I like Maelstrom's idea. It's kinda annoying when you check the Item-meta stats for who owns what and then find out it's just a renter or a loaner.

Special J August 4 2005 11:09 PM EDT

"Maybe impossible but, how about sorting the "recent posts" page by type (FS, Off-topic, etc) "

You can

Forums --> Pick one

QBsutekh137 August 4 2005 11:14 PM EDT

mrwuss, there is a vast difference between sorting and filtering. He wants a sort. You are saying to filter. That's not really an answer. *smile*

Special J August 4 2005 11:17 PM EDT

He wants to sort recent posts by type, and that can be done with the filter.

so in this case they are one in the same.

*smile*

QBsutekh137 August 4 2005 11:49 PM EDT

If I may venture a guess...you've never been a programmer sitting across from a user who knows the difference (and wants the change implemented)?

He wants to see the Recent Threads listed as always, just sorted by type. It is in no way a strange request, and is in no way related to seeing only one kind of post at a time. Sorting vs. Filtering.

maulaxe August 5 2005 12:33 AM EDT

what would be useful to me is an easier way to merge ammo. however i don't think that would be legal as it currently stands.

what i am thinking of is to be able to have the option of "merge onto [minion name]" in the little drop-down box. BUT, currently that requires three clicks: unquip, merge, equip. that would be considered a bot if it did that, correct?

one can always dream...

The3Stooges August 5 2005 5:52 AM EDT

i think it would be good to see what your minions looked like in home have a picture of each of your minions and the picture changes when you add a different iteam so you can see the vorpal blade or mithril chain mail for example i think it would be a possitive change to the game adding a new demension to it also!!!

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] August 5 2005 10:03 AM EDT

That sorting is very useful, using Ctrl+F to do that is rather annoying.

Who Dunnit August 5 2005 1:19 PM EDT

what about a calendar. holds future changes in thought tourneys, and the people throwing contests that are over the weekend they could be sought on the calendar with times and who is running it,future contests, or even put birthdays on it...think the trivia rounds that are set for a week or so later so people could see it at a glance and go right back to forging/fighting. maybe with reminders that are sent to your chatmail or to pm box?

Undertow August 5 2005 1:38 PM EDT

Maybe it's just me, but I'm still getting some problems with your script.

LOTS of different links make me fight. Imparticular the "click here to see old threads" link, anyones name in forums, and anytime I click an individual forum, all make me fight.

Other than that, someone else had the great idea of the list starting back at the top, and then progressing past comatose oppenants each time. So your always fighting the highest non-comatose oppenant on the list.

Sukotto [lookingglas] August 5 2005 2:40 PM EDT

mrwuss, chet has it right.
I asked that the "recent posts" page show all the posts it currently does... just sorted by the forum type. Within each forum type, keep the posts in "most recently posted" order.

OutKasT August 5 2005 3:40 PM EDT

Don't know if these had been said but here you go

1. On Active threads make a auto arrow thing so it would be easier to look at them , also without going on a new page. So you could be on your home page and then look at the Active threads and see if your Thread that you made is getting replies or not.
2.On the Manage Characters Page. It would be way easier if there was a way to manage your money. Like somehow there is a button that transfer all your money from your other characters to the selected character on the Manage Character Page.

Well sorry if this was said already.. /me to lazy to look. = )

Who Dunnit August 5 2005 4:39 PM EDT

dont know if this has been said but what about an easier way to "customize" your ammo merge and create your own bundles....... as for the above mentioned script error.... have not encountered that problem.

faedarklight August 5 2005 7:47 PM EDT

Hm maybe make the colors more people friendly. They are killing my eyes after playig for a while. the transition from Grey to (i suppose it is) cream for the chat is a bit rough on the eyes..not fair that the supporters get the cool backgrounds when us poor folk dont get that option.

AdminQBVerifex August 5 2005 8:38 PM EDT

faedarklight, I'm not making themes for CB on top of the themes we already have. If you want to make a new theme, design one and talk to Jon. I'm sure if you have a great new design he add it.

Synco August 6 2005 1:56 PM EDT

I think it would be helpful if you could have a link to the wiki for an item in auctions. After you click on the page for the auction of the specific item, have a link to the wiki as the item name like you have on the forge page.

chappy [Soup Ream] August 6 2005 2:06 PM EDT

I'd like to see the NW of items added to the home screen... that would make me soooo happy :P

Synco August 6 2005 5:30 PM EDT

That would be too crowded. You can just go check the NW on the forge page or the auction page.

Synco August 6 2005 5:41 PM EDT

Add commas to the NW of items in the transfer log and store purchase log.

nightslyder [Brew Crew Forging Service] August 6 2005 6:22 PM EDT

maybe have peoples win percentage on the front page, so you know who would be more worthwhile fighting

CoolWater August 6 2005 6:38 PM EDT

I wish to have an auto select of rare gears whenever I visit the stores and all I have to do is to click buy. but I don't think this would be legal.

Synco August 6 2005 6:47 PM EDT

nightslyder, you can just click on Recent Battles: Mine to find out your win percentage.

CoolWater August 6 2005 9:17 PM EDT

Sorry, didn't read the fine prints in the original post. Please ignore my post.

Special J August 6 2005 11:31 PM EDT

Thats a bit much

ThePwnageStickz August 7 2005 10:29 AM EDT

Greasemonkey doesn't work with linux does it??? O_O

AdminQBVerifex August 7 2005 1:30 PM EDT

Not entirely sure about that pwnage. Firefox is available on all OS's I believe. Not sure how it works under mac or unix though.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] August 7 2005 2:52 PM EDT

greasemonkey works fine on OS X, that leads me to believe there is no reason it shouldn't run on any *nix

RedWolf August 9 2005 1:31 PM EDT

I don't know if you can do this, but it would be nice to have.

In forums, wherever you put someone's name, have something...maybe an HTML tag or something similar...so when ever that person changes their name, the name in the forum post changes with it. It might not be useful unless you're looking at old threads (which I like to do) but it gets kind of confusing when somebody addresses somebody else, and that name is nowhere to be seen on the thread.

AdminQBVerifex August 9 2005 4:40 PM EDT

Congratulations to our Winners!
ywnwraith - One touch training - 50k
Mountain Man - Reset fight list to top each fight - 50k
Sukotto - honorable mention for active thread sorting (stricken down at last minute) 10k

AdminQBVerifex August 9 2005 4:43 PM EDT

By the way, the script is still downloadable from the link at the top, or from this link:

http://www.defhoboz.biz/misccb2enhancements.user.js

mikeannike August 12 2005 12:28 AM EDT

You could use simple animated gifs to illustrate battles. You could also have an option to load music as a characters battle cry. You should also make it so that super high level players can't battle lower level players , for ex: a players in the 100,00's shouldn't be able to play a players in the 12,000's. You could have tournements for cb members only , for a chance to win a one of a kind weapons. You could make a actual help center. Another idea that would help newer players is a movie that show basic the like how to attack and equip weapons (nothing fancy).

Undertow August 12 2005 2:41 AM EDT

Alright that's it.

HE CAN'T DO GRAPHICS! NO GIFS!

He can make SIMPLE TINY COSMETIC CHANGES!
A little link here, and little link there. GREAT!

He can't STOP you from doing ANYTHING.

He can't ADD A TOURNAMENT!

He can't add items.

He can't change the data that's on the server, think of it that way. Just the way it's presented to you.

Think of it like this: He's a waiter, he can't change your food, but he can move it around on your plate, or change the way he brings it to you.

Undertow August 12 2005 2:42 AM EDT

How can he make a movie for new players, when they haven't yet downloaded the script?

[T]Vestax August 12 2005 11:37 AM EDT

Could you make it so that every time Undertow says "BURN the ______" I see him saying something like "I like my little pink dress" instead. :)

cronoswing August 14 2005 8:18 PM EDT

i would like to change the dwarf in forging and let u do what u want. Constantly pooring water on everything

The3Stooges August 15 2005 9:01 AM EDT

i think an option of font and font size not outrageous sizes just enough for a little variety in the game even if you add 3-5 different fonts and font sizes ranging from 8-16 would be nice :D and in item overview adding an item picture next to each items giving us an idea of what the items looked like you could set it up simular to how the new(picture version) of forums has dont know if its possible for any of these changes to be added but it would be great to see them in action in the near future

[SoM]CupofJoe [Peoples Bank of Carnage] August 15 2005 11:32 AM EDT

You know at first I really liked the "go to the top of the list idea," until I began to really think about it. You see, every once in a while there is someone in my list that beats me. If I cycle through and fight him again, right away, I don't gain anything really substantial from it. I would just lose 2 BA instead of 1BA. Therefore, I personally don't like that idea. Call me stingy, I don't care. I just don't think it's the greatest idea.

Synco August 15 2005 11:38 AM EDT

Then take him off your list...?

[SoM]CupofJoe [Peoples Bank of Carnage] August 15 2005 11:43 AM EDT

Yeah I figured I'd get that response...The thing is is that I get very good rewards from the person that beats me once in a while. Also, He beats me so rarely that it is worth it, in my opinion, to continue fighting him and losing to him at such a rare rate. So you see, that option would not be extremely beneficial to me.

[T]Vestax August 15 2005 12:31 PM EDT

You say he's worth fighting, then why shouldn't you cycle back to him and fight again. If he's isn't worth fighting one extra time, then he isn't worth fighting at all.

Either admit he's worth the BA or not. If not then take him off the list (with or without the cycle to the top option.)

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] August 15 2005 12:37 PM EDT

Ves: because he normally wins, fighting him the second time would be lower rewards than if he waited for the char to heal, and won.

[SoM]CupofJoe [Peoples Bank of Carnage] August 15 2005 4:57 PM EDT

Precisely my point. Thanks novice :)

madstag August 16 2005 10:49 AM EDT

i would have mage weapons because you have melee weapons and armour but mages only have Cloak of Istari so i think it be cool to have mage weapons in like staffs
